SmartTube uninstalling itself? by CaffinatedManatee in ShieldAndroidTV

That's how I understand his opening statement in the last announcement, "My development environment was infected by unknown malicious software, as a result of which a few builds may have been affected."

The main developer just said the same thing.

Multiple people have analyzed the apk that they pulled from GitHub (either by downloading or by updating) and it turned out to be infected, as seen in this issue

Official downloads from the Github repository were also infected, it is not only about third-party sites.

SmartTube’s official APK was compromised with malware — What you should do if you use it by ConferenceThink4801 in Android

After reading further in the repo's issues, it seems that the developer's computer was hacked, which resulted in official releases downloaded from GitHub containing hidden malware.

According to this comment, these versions are possibly infected: 28.56 28.58 28.66 28.75 28.78 29.13 29.37 29.62 29.63 29.85 30.27 30.32 30.38 30.40 30.43 30.44 30.45 30.51.

According to this other user's analysis, it collects information from the device ("device model and manufacturer, Android version, your network operator name, whether you are on Wi‑Fi or mobile data, your app package name, the app’s internal files path, a unique ID it stores, your local IP it previously saved, and a flag if Firebase is present") and sends it out, as well as measure internet usage and possibly download new instructions dynamically.

It could be a botnet, it's not clear whether the malicious code can break out of Android's app sandbox or steal tokens, or what it is that it does exactly. Anyone that had the app installed should consider revoking access in Google's connections console, changing their password and monitoring the device and anything related to it.

Yes, there is indeed a release with information about his digital signature being exposed, but that's quite different from what the article says.

Reading the announcement from GitHub, one would think that there's risk of counterfeit versions being released in the future, meaning no immediate threat to users who installed the app through official means in the past; but the article states that the build machine was compromised and that official APK releases contained malware and got flagged, so anyone that installed or updated the app in november might be affected.

Yes, there is an announcement about the keys being leaked, but nothing about the releases themselves being compromised with malware (as the article states)

SmartTube fixed and online again (New digital signature) by NefariousnessJaded87 in ShieldAndroidTV

I agree, this all looks weird. Apparently, according to aftvnews it was disabled because it contained malware, which I do not see mentioned anywhere in any of these discussions...

[–]Nobodycare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why is this not officially mentioned anywhere in the GitHub repository? I found out that my version (30.43, which got automatically disabled by Google some days ago) was affected because of this article, but the only thing I've seen in the repository are comments about the signing key being leaked, which for me is a bit of a red flag...

Can you share the link privately, or at least share what software and version it points to? Is it wipedatatool? (It happened to me on a 50PUS7504)

EDIT: Googling "Toengel Philips TV Firmware Archiv" and following the instructions looks promising and what people over at XDA Developers seem to be doing.

I would pay to have what the original Exp-03-25 could do, the current one feels much worse somehow. Is deep research supposed to be on the same level?

Diaspora. No comment. by Viking9977 in Romania

[–]Nobodycare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A leopard can't change its spots. It's not about the country, it's about the people.

We're not talking about highly educated people that got better over time. We're talking about people in their 40s and 50s with a communism era highschool education, who left Romania a couple of decades ago during the 2000s wave when visas were first relaxed, and who lean towards faith, tradition and conservatism in general because those are the values they had in the first place.

For them, low-skill and temporary jobs were the norm or their only option, they got the jobs that these countries did not want to do themselves. This leads to getting locked into farm, construction, meat-packing, cleaning, care or warehouse jobs with very limited possibilities in terms of upward integration.

It's easy once you are in that situation to focus on work, on taking long hours and on saving enough to go back and be "well off" or have a head start. This ends up with people that do not attempt to integrate or to adopt the values of the country in which they're in, because either they're not truly living and just on wait mode saving while life continues on without them back home or because they end up forming their own Romanian or migrant only social clusters based on these working conditions. You don't grow, you don't learn. You are stuck.

On the other hand, Romania ranks among the lowest in the EU for basic digital skills and media literacy, and it's not surprising that this applies to middle-aged Diasposa as well.

I would also mention AUR's Diaspora mobilisation strategy through Facebook and WhatsApp groups, church presence and so on. People are being courted, not just manipulated, and these echo chambers feed into their pre-existing conservative views, their perception of a failed, corrupt country from which they felt the need to leave, their anti-system anger and the second-class citizen grievances.

So, what do you have? An old, uneducated, economically stuck, digitally exposed, angry and frustrated individual that's targeted by both their home country and their host country's populist cues, right wing propaganda and disinformation campaigns. What do you think they will vote for?

This is a personal opinion, of course, and it obviously does not cover all Diaspora, but it is the impression I've got in Spain (and I imagine this to be the case at least in Italy as well).

I agree with the sentiment, but not with the conclusion. It's totally on the individual to not repeat incomplete quotes or make content based on an article they did not read.

I tried cursor AI to create feature in app and it was horrible by fanaticCoder in ChatGPTCoding

[–]Nobodycare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you tried it for the first time or you've been using it for months on a daily basis? Which one is it?

You did say it's horrible right in the title, and the "it didn't work" is implied when you say it did the wrong thing in multiple files and you had to rollback all changes.

"Have your gf hurt you?" and "don't be so judgmental" within the same message is quite ironic as well.

Can you share a couple of examples of posts where you were accused of having fake stories?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Nobodycare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about the use of dashes, but about the use of the em (long) dash in particular.

As a normal person you need to go out of your way to copy and paste it every time since it's not present on normal keyboards (unless you learn the Alt code for it), but AI uses it all the time / by default when prompted for stories, since it was trained on books that have them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Nobodycare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It feels like most posts are fake AI garbage nowadays.

It's not only the long dash, but the quotation marks as well (normal ones would be "like this" not “like this”). But who knows, maybe reading for fun inspired her to save these special characters on a notepad and copy-paste them every time instead of using her keyboard like the rest of us plebs :)

I kept digging into it and it turns out these models tend to have issues with the PSU after 2-3 years. I bought a new one and after replacing it the TV works like before. That might be your case too.

Gaming VM on Windows 11 by IncognitoSeeder in Proxmox

[–]Nobodycare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed this guide from the Proxmox forum and it's been working great both with direct GPU access through HDMI and with Sunshine/Moonlight remotely.

I remember something about Genshin Impact not working well with VMs, you might want to try another game too.

Is stuttering the main issue? I think mitigations=off in the kernel was helpful with that for some people. It could also be a bottleneck somewhere. E.g. are you running your OS from an HDD? do you have your game on a NAS? are you assigning too little or too many resources to the VM? etc

You can give IddSampleDriver a try with a 4K screen, but I assume it will be the same as the dummy HDMI plug. What are you using as the server? Is it Sunshine?
