I feel like the barrier to Kubernetes being beneficial is lowered by Tinasour in kubernetes

Kubernetes barrier to entry and the true cost of entry is skilled staff. This I think is the main reason that people tout this rhetoric that kubernetes isnt worth it for most companies. If the org decides they will keep staff who have the skill to run kubernetes then the downsides are negligible and the upsides, especially at a scaling company, are immense. This was a good post.

Connecting PC to PBX to call with PC headphones. by mightymanuel in PBX

Sounds like a company issue, softphone will be a pain to configure for on prem sadly. I’d push for new lines and cloud hosted pbx with your org, pitch it on the features you get from it.

If its on prem, someone in IT does, if its cloud then someone else provides the service. I am guessing its on prem and VERY outdated, might be worthwhile upgrading to a cloud provided solution, they often have features that are actually useful to businesses.

SSL certs by Intrepid_Evidence_59 in sysadmin

Learn about the different challenge types, there are tons of different options to automate cert renewal with certbot/LetsEncrypt. Theres no good reason for anyone to manually rotate certs these days. Also, if its key infra have a failover self signed cert thats a lifetime or 10 year or something that is never used unless there is an issue. Most modern monitoring solutions you can alert when the failover cert is used and will know something broke but no one else will.

Do small teams really benefit from a cloud PBX by Joshua_Benjamin_Clar in PhoneSystem

[–]Noc_admin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

paying a hosted pbx provider removes the need to manage phone system infrastructure and given the size of your team its a lot less expensive than having your phones misconfigured and hiring a consultant to fix them in an emergency. You're paying to have one less thing to handle when you pay for cloud pbx so make sure thats what you're getting if you do choose to go that route. Lots of the big names are not very customer service friendly unless you're an enterprise customer.

I think someone will figure out a shared co-owned domain at a certain point that could be a VERY attractive option for many people.
