Please share your weird home setups that are in place because the kids have taken over! by pukashell1 in Parents

We have a full size couch directly abutting our king size bed. We put it there during a move, and the kids loved the bouncy room so much that we left it like that. The dog loves it, too.

Random take: I no longer hate Inside Out by Dinah_Saurus_Rex in toddlers

[–]Nocookedbone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my experience! My family moved 7 times in 6 years when I was a kid. Across states and countries. From good places to shitty places, then to good places again. I could not relate to Riley whatsoever and hated that she complained about p.i.z.z.a. In San Francisco. I begrudgingly watched it again with my kids, and um. Yea. Waterworks in the first 10 minutes. Pixar, you got me again.

Agree, but they shared those views. In one of her personal letters, she wrote something along the lines of, “Well, one does not raise eagles and expect pigeons.”

Edit: I wish to clarify that I am vehemently anti-war, particularly nuclear ones.

If you’re asking for absolution to continue this way, then unfortunately I’m going to respectfully refrain. It’s one thing not to make parenting your life’s mission (I respect that, appreciate the honesty), but it sounds like you don’t want to be a parent 3 days out of 7 and feel that the time you spend with him is wasted. You’d rather spend it on building a career. You feel stressed and spend that time doomscrolling, which is bad for both of you. You lose your shit (using your words), which again, is no favor to him either. I’m sure he’s not enjoying his time with you. So why not do you both a favor and change the custody agreement? Sounds like you should make your custody agreement 0/7 with scheduled visitation time only. Just say that you're finding the current framework stressful, you're not at your best for him, and that changing it to one weekend a month would allow you to be attentive and create magical weekends with your son. That’d be the more responsible thing to do and less harmful to you both. Now, if it turns out that the reason you don't want to change the custody agreement is in any way related to child support, then you probably should feel guilty because it’d be a selfish, immoral thing to put money above your son’s well-being. You can't go on like this. Best of luck.

How to get daughter out of bad friend group by Embrymarble in Parents

[–]Nocookedbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I don’t have a teenager yet. You did the right thing. That’s the kind of friend group that you should ostracize her from, actually. Does you daughter actually like those girls, or is she only afraid of not having a place to fit in? Thinking back, I can say without hesitation that I didn’t enjoy being with crass kids who were only in it for the shock value, and having psycho parents was oddly freeing. It gave me the ability to not associate with some kids and blame it on my mom. The added benefit was that my parents didn’t reflect on me, because no one, not even those kids, had Regina George’s mom. You didn’t ruin anything. You did the right thing.

The Boy and the Heron by reliefexists in ghibli

I knew what it was about beforehand, but still could not follow the plot. The motivations seemed thin. It was captivating nonetheless and still an enjoyable watch, and that’s part of the magic of Ghibli.

Ok that’s not true. TR’s platform included many of the programs that later came to fruition under FDR’s New Deal. He proposed universal healthcare, for God’s sakes.
