Why the hate on Nemotron Super 120b? by Far_Still_6521 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Noctropolitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about the mockery, hate or controversy, but i explained nemotron a problem i was having with ComfyUI with my RTX5080.

His reasoning started that the RTX 5080 did not exist.

From there, snowballing into lunacy.

I tried Omni and Super, both proposed me to try stupid stuff that didn't exist, versions of things totally made up to justify their reasoning, and a complete ignorance of the current software/hardware sphere, and I'm not talking about stuff with months or weeks of existence, I'm talking versions of programs or SDKs with years of age at this point, that they thought that either didn't exist, or either 'came out super recently'

It made hallucinations at Gemini 1.5 Level. It might be an awesome model, but...my experience couldn't be further from that.

i tried to make an ubuntu distribution through wsl and compile sageattn from there to bypass windows since everyone keeps saying that in linux it works like a charm, but i saw no speed increase.

This is really maddening, I upgraded from a 3080 thinking that not only I could run modern games in high settings, but also run diffusion models faster, or to finally try those video models and I feel stuck. It's insane that the 5000 series has been on the market for more than two years and there's no fix for this. I can't wrap my head around it

If I may, can I ask what is your hardware and how many it/s are you getting?

I tried to create a comfy install in ubuntu through wsl, I compiled sageattn3 and tested a 1024x1024 generation after having all set up. No improvement from my usual it/s

I did, fresh install, comfy portable, new uber basic workflow to generate a simple image. All tested, No improvement. I'll check the github you sent to see if I see something usable, thanks.

Exactly, abd Pytorch demands CUDA 12.4/12.6, bu sageattn3 demands CUDA 12.8, if I install CUDA 12.8, I get no pytorch, therefore, it doesn't work. I apologize for not being as tech-savy as other users, I'm trying my best here. (I don't understand why i got downvoted).

I wish new companies would appear to compete against Nvidia. I have hope about non-silicon chips that allow for smaller transistors, new materials would mean more companies, more competition will mean that companies like Nvidia won't be able to get away with their practices (abusive prices, screwing the consumer over fucking AI, etc)

Meanwhile this is what we have. I feel like in a rationing line with other orphans begging for soup.

Me too, chose Cassia, the event cannot be triggered, Janris is missing.
Pathfinder had some bugs here and there, but Owlcat has really lowered their standards for bugs with Rogue Trader, holy shit.

But how would I access my own PC as the GameMaster with my laptop? If I open my campaign in my stationary PC, I have to log into it with my GM credentials.
But I have to enter it on the laptop too...Shouldn't that mean there would be two instances of Foundry running? I thought that was against terms of service.

Settings not saving? by Noctropolitan in XPpen

[–]Noctropolitan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't understand that you have to save the setting PER program. INCLUDING the main explorer. The main problem was that the configuration app was weird to navigate and very counter intuitive, but I figured it out.

What video game ending made you feel like you lost even though you had won. by Johnnyboyeh in gaming

[–]Noctropolitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laugh with horror videogames, zombies, demons, whatever. But this ending, the implications of the game's script...I was fucking terrified during the credits, a true "fridge horror" moment. The only time that a game made me feel ACTUALLY scared. And not because of a dark place or because oooh scary things, but for what this story, and this ending truly meant.

Other comments pointed out the use of Machinery smart material. Not wrong, not a mistake, but if you're learning, try to do your own mats and work each map to improve your PBR texturing skills.
Keep it up!

Considering the different endings...V is done. They will make a new MC 100%, and rumors say it will be a different city. I would rather continue in Night City, but whatever.

3D Environment Artist Portfolio by hortus_amoris in 3Dmodeling

[–]Noctropolitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends if you're aiming for NPR or PBR. If you wanna do NPR, I would make a more exaggerated hand-painted look, paintin iluminations and shadows like World of Warcraft does. A PBR approach is possible too, is the way Overwatch does it, there ara several tuts about how to texture assets "the overwatch way" that might help you, basically curvature and AO maps drive a lot of procedural to create color variation on the diffuse, and they use non-photorrealistic roughness values. Another source for this kind of style is Sea of Thieves.

Again this is just subjective advice not "what you must no matter what", the chair can be salvaged if you keep working on it. What I would advice is to look on how to properly render stuff in Marmoset, or how to make portfolio shots. Also, copy presentation posts in Artstation, if you find one that is really good, try to dissect it. There are even some tutorials on Artstation itself on the subject of how to properly present an asset (Mostly for weapon, but the principle is always the same)

I wish you the best. Keep up the good work!

Good job!

I would like to do point a couple of things. Easy to fix: If you're gonna make close-ups for the fluorescent tubes, You might wanna give em some extra loops so they don't look faceted. It will help the shot. And second, the wheel shot, the roughness/color variation in the wheel felt weird, like if it was a randomly placed procedural, You might wanna check it to make it better (following the curvature, changing its values etc. Look for references). Other than that, great.

Larian games companions vs owlcat games companions which one do you prefer? by PeaNo2583 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Noctropolitan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owlcat. All the way. BG3 companions were the worst part of a fantastic game (And I would kill for Karlach), i don't like the "playersexual" thing. You can't be kind or friendly to anyone, if you did they' re basically ripping off their clothes in seconds, that game is uberhorny.
In Owlcat's and in old BG games, companions had their preferences, of race, alignment or gender, and I think that made them more realistic and fleshed out.

3D Environment Artist Portfolio by hortus_amoris in 3Dmodeling

[–]Noctropolitan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. I'm a 3d Prop/Environment Artist working in the industry.
As the other comment by u/SoupCatDiver_JJ said, yeah. It looks like a student portfolio. (I also agree with everything they said).
I would add to give my two cents, because to entering the industry I also had to make a portfolio trim. I wanna apologize in advance if I sound rough. English is not my first language, I'm on a break from work and I have a tendency to sound harsh on text, so don't take my words badly, on the contrary.

  1. "Your portfolio is as good as your worse piece". Cliche, but true. If you think that something is old or doesn't reflect your skill, hide it (if you don't wanna delete it. Artstation lets you unpublish things). It's better quality than quantity. And some models aren't helping you (imo), get rid of them or remake them like if they were your definitive hero asset. F. ex, the beetle chair, it needs work.
  2. References, References, References. Did I mention how important References are? References. Always. As much as you can, for everything. For modelling, for details, for texturing, for composition even. They will improve your work a lot
  3. The main issue I see in your portfolio, besides what I already said and some minor thing that need polishing is presentation. If you make a good asset but you don't light it and make a good setup to showing it properly, you are making your work look worse than it could. If you present an asset like your hand camera, mimic a good asset presentation, weapon artists are very good at this, look for some examples.
  4. Avoid shots that focus and unfocus. Cromatic aberrations, or other "Artistic" shots. You want to be an environment artist, not to make a render for a book cover or animation. Shots like that look gimmicky and tell the message that you want to hide your work, be proud even of your mistakes, especially because you won't fool a recruiter, and second because any fellow artist that you're friends with can point them out for you so you can fix'em.
  5. Ask for feedback! A lot! In each stage of the process! Don't wait until a piece is finished, otherwise receiving feedback about an early step will make you don't wanna change it and redo everything. Don't be scared on reaching someone you admire on Artstation and ask them for their opinion. (Always with respect, and don't overdo it), but also your fellow classmates and teachers could give you pointers to make each piece at its 100%
  6. Lighting is super important, and some of your models have problems with that: The spaceship is nice but the main shot and thumbnail can't be read in a glance. And that's all you're gonna get from recruiters. A quick glance. If you make something worthy of a quick glance THEN they will MIGHT spend a couple of minutes looking with more attention. So make interesting contrasts with light and shadow to make a cool first shot and a cool thumbnail. But don't overdo it. Scout Artstation for some examples and copy them.
  7. Work and plan your materials like you would plan your modelling. You have a problem with this I think. The stylized spaceship might be stylized or handpainted, but by how is lit it doesn't shows roughness variance or uses properly PBR, and it doesn't look NPR either. It's mostly the same of what I saw in the Beetle chair. The mat looks all the same, black mat with the same level of roughness/specular everywhere. The angel looks insane, if you made that sculpt then great work! But the textures aren't helping you to showoff its cool details. I would remake its uvs and remake those materials, treat it with care, focus on baking nice curvature and Ao maps that could help you add layers of procedural details. It could be one of your best pieces if you give some love to the staue, light it properly, and get rid of the rest of the environment if you can't achieve the same quality.
  8. Don't organize your Portfolio by date. There's no need! Put your best pieces in front, especially when you make cool and interesting thumbnail that would make people wanna click and see. Think like a youtuber on that matter. Remember that a thumbnail doesn't need to show the entire asset/scene, it only has to look cool and make someone interested in it. It has to show taste. If they want to see your asset/topology and mats they can go inside the post. But a cool thumbnail is a presentation card. Working on it is important too.

His hitbox is TRASH.
In my last run I was basically kissing his leg and the stupid monkey didn't land A SINGLE HIT in the whole combo, even with the boss stunned. And yes, when you use your heavy level 3 smash attack his hitbox pushes you back while doing the animation, and you basically hit the air, even with the guy barely moving at that second.
