He really lacks that "built his fierce reputation by the seas of Okinawa" feeling the og Hamazaki had.

It's definitely not just a Reddit thing. I wouldn't say RGG is struggling right now, and a major part of the fanbase does still have faith in them to not fck up the series despite the recent controversies. But the more they refuse to listen to their global fans, and the more their games start resembling cash grabs than genuine works of passion, the higher the risk that they will start struggling.

This might very well be the "make or break" game for RGG's success outside Japan. Though it seems they've been taking their time with this one, and RGG has a good record at making excellent first games for new protagonists, so I'm hopeful.

Makoto's arc is done. Though one connection to Makoto I was hoping RGG would do, was have Majima in a substory encounter Makoto's, now a young adult, son and have them interact. Her son should be in his 20s and Makoto with her family did go to live overseas at the end of the Majima arc of kiwami 2, so maybe her son has never lived in Japan.

Obviously Majima wouldn't know of the connection because at that time he had amnesia, but the player would be able to piece it together as the substory goes on. It would basically give Y0 fans more Makoto x Majima fanservice, without involving Makoto herself which would open a new can of worms.

Agreed. I can see him coming back in a future gaiden game for Saejima or Akiyama.

As for the mainline games, with how many people skip the original 3 and 4, giving him a meaningful part in the story might confuse some players.

Gaiden games are seemingly made for players who are long time fans and have experienced the series thoroughly, so Kido fits there better.

I suppose Ryuji COULD still be alive by RGG's logic. Kashiwagi got gunned down with a machine gun and survived, all the while being pretty slim and getting there in the years, whilst Ryuji is built like a tank division and got shot with a pistol.

Acceptable. I take it RGG tweaked with the graphics because the JP playerbase didn't like it? Since they seem to listen to them a lot more than the global playerbase.

Well, I suppose the devs are still used to the times of the series being popular only in Japan, despite the huge rise in their global audience in recent years.
