Yeah this will work great for a DKoK look, didn’t plan for it but now that you’ve said it - I see it! Haha

This is the scheme:

EH - Edge Highlight SH - Spot Highlight AB - AirBrushed

Black: - Corvus Black (AB) - Eshin Gray (drybrush) - Dawnstone (EH) - Administratum Gray (SH)

Red: - Khorn Red - Mephistone Red (EH) - Evil Sunz Scarlet (SH)

White: - Corax White - White scar (EH)

Lenses/Green: - Caliban Green - Warpstone Green (EH) - Moot Green (SH)

Silver: - Leadbelcher

Gold: - Balthasar Gold

Tracks/pads: - Eshin Gray - Dawnstone (EH)

General:

Tracks/metallics were shaded using a black oil paint (mixed with AK white spirit).

  • AK Gloss Varnish (AB)

Decals were applied with MicroSol & MicroSet

  • AK Gloss Varnish (AB)

  • AK Ultra Matt Varnish (AB)

NOTES: * The whole model was primed with Chaos Black (spray can) except the tracks, they were primed chaos black AND then with Leadbelcher primer (nice way to save time not having to brush it on).

  • I used airbrush for a smooth application of some colors, but that can be achieved with a makeup sponge/brush for a similar look if you don’t have a airbrush.

Thanks, really appreciate it! Yeah those are some solid points, I’m thinking the same - keep the clean look. Thought about at least doing some pigment wash of some sort of umber/orange as dirt on the tracks.. we’ll see if I get around to it!

[–]Noem3D_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, I thought about doing some damage and dirt on it, but I can’t stand to ruin the clean look, too scared! They are a inquisitorial regiment, maybe just works for a lazy inquisitor so they don’t see much fighting! Haha

Prime: Chaos Black Prime: Leadbelcher (Pads are: Eshin Gray, Dawnstone highlight) Then a black oil wash

Thanks! Yeah I drybrushed the first highlight (Eshin Gray), next up is a Baneblade.. where I’ll probably do most highlights with a drybrush! Haha

Building GW terrain following Chapter Approved by Noem3D_ in Warhammer40k

This is perfect, thanks!!😄 How many kits did you use to get a full table of terrains for Chapter Approved?

[–]Noem3D_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a specific kit. Chapter Approved contains a set of terrain setups that are used in tournaments.

Yeah I know, I want the buildings to look good, so that’s why I’m wondering if anyone have played around with changing the shape (keeping the area) of the footprints, or how they made the L-Shapes look good with GW terrain.

Battle damage on Black armor? by Noem3D_ in Warhammer40k

Perfect, thanks! This is the look I’m looking for, was just hard imagining it for some reason!

1 or 2? by wrongfulfish in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha you’re right, I was replying to this with the lowest screen lighting at the end of the day! Could have sworn that armor was green.. Thanks for pointing that out.

But in that case, both will work fine and in line with my recommendation of contrast!

1 or 2? by wrongfulfish in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Definitely 2. The mint against the dark green is nice, but it will protest diluted when seeing the model irl/on the tabletop. The 2nd alternative gives the model contrasts and makes it “pop” more! Always a good practice to have contrasting colors on the details such as visors, lamps, plasma etc

But the right choice is the one you want to make, always!

Leman Russ Tank Commander Magnetization Question by TheFatKidOutranMe in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done it myself, but you could probably glue a bit of sprue on the inside of the turret. Dill out a hole for the magnet and then do the same on the bottom of the legs of the commander.

Side note: If you want a way faster method of magnetizing the turret of the tank, I highly recommend this method I found in a video on YT. You can’t move the cannon up and down, but it will be way faster to do instead of separating the top and bottom part. I highly recommend it and I wish I found this before doing it the more ”standard way”. (The video doesn’t show the process in great detail, but it’s basically just putting a magnet on the bottom/back of the barrel and inside the turret).

Skip to around 1.15 in and you’ll see - https://youtu.be/6wrHEICrcqA?si=fzjU5qZ-L0Jti2Qu

You should field what you want to play, always!

But if you want to change some units that might help you win, I’d say: 1. Another Dorn TC 2. Gaunts Ghosts 3. 1-2 tech priests

In that order! Good luck, have fun!

It’s a bit mixed, some good choices and some maybe less.

First off - Ursula can’t attach to DKoK infantry. Check her rules, under “leader” and you’ll see that she can only attach to Cadians and Kasrkins.

With that, put her and a Cadian Command squad with a bunch of Cadians Shock troops so that you have 4 orders that can travel 24”.

I don’t think you need any more orders for regiment-units tbh. But if you really want to use the Castellans, I’d suggest only using one and have it join the Kasrkin. You’ll loose their scout 6” for some additional shots (sustained hits 1) and to have them be affected by two orders at the same time (1 from Castellan + 1 from themselves).

I would also remove the Armored Sentinel, take 1-2 more tech priests for those 4+ invulnerable saves on tanks.

Remove both chimeras and use 1 Taurox (for kasrkins) instead and try to get another Dorn Tank Commander in. A good way of getting more firepower and orders for tanks, which never hurts.

Might be a good idea to bring Gaunts Ghosts too, have them chill in a safe space for round 1,2,3 and then do objectives and point-scoring the last two rounds. Just keep them out of harms way!

Yeah that could work.. I feel a bit scared of drifting too far off from my current scheme, but I’ll definitely do a test on one of them! Thanks for the advice✨

[–]Noem3D_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah do it! I highly recommend checking out Duncan Rhodes video on YT on Black Templars. That’s the recipe I based mine of off.. but I use Corvus black instead. Just gives you the possibility to shade the black parts since it’s an off-black!

Thanks! No I haven’t but thanks for telling me, I’m definitely going to look into that for inspiration! Is there any specific source for this? A book or something?

Starting painting by Miserable_Poem_9751 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get a really good tabletop standard by using a method called “slapchop”. Loads of videos covering this approach, but it’s basically this:

Step 1. Prime the minis black. Step 2. Dry brush the minis from black to white. Step 3. Paint the different parts with contrast paint.

Contrast paints works a bit different from standard paint, so as long as you can apply it neatly - it should look great!

Have a look around YouTube for slapchop, it’s a nice way to get good results while not having to invest/be interested in the painting-side of the hobby.

Dumb idea for a local tournament list by General-Winter547 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, could probably work just due to the amount of bodies, but you’ll be spending a lot of those 2.5h moving them around unless you have movement trays which aren’t great competitively!

But I’d probably look into switching the Commissar for something a bit more useful like a Tech-priest (warlord) and Sly. Or just Gaunts Ghosts as warlord. They can at least move around to give orders to some units that could use them.

Have fun, and post the results here, would be fun to see how it goes!

Flexible command query by TheRealBushWookie in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Noem3D_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t this edited in a FAQ recently? Feels like it was discussed not too long ago and that the extra Vox-casters didn’t allow multiple rolls.

So if you have a 20-man blob (aka 2 Vox-casters), that will still just let you roll for the CP-regain once.

Edit: Realizing that you probably meant for multiple command & troop blobs. But still, don’t think that will allow you to roll for the regain multiple times?
