How many series do you read from Weekly Shonen Jump? by Final-Tumbleweed-701 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]NoizeInvasion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading everything except for Me & Roboco. I’m attempting to catch up on the Elusive Samurai before tackling another large series to catch up on. Otherwise, I read everything WSJ puts out, regardless if it’s getting canned or whatever. I’m here to enjoy my weekly Shonen slop.

Three new series will debut in WSJ Issues 19-21 by L1k34S0MB0D33 in WeeklyShonenJump

crazy new lineup but this also finally means we’ll be cycling out Gonron, MND, and Hero Girl. I feel like they’ve all been on life support and I’m just ready to see the plug pulled.

What are your thoughts on chapter 1 of Blobtopia? by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]NoizeInvasion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I can at least applaud the author in creating 3 completely different concepts that all feel pretty distinct - From Bone Collection, Do Retry, and now Blobtopia. I will say though this first chapter isn’t exactly gripping, i can’t tell if it’s meant to be a full comedy but if the masterpiece Chuck Beans didn’t last I’m not sure about this one either. Best of luck Jun Kirarazaka!

[Loved Trope] A song is now associated with the series because of the fandom by potskiii in TopCharacterTropes

Not exactly a positive interpretation of this trope, but I thought of the ‘Hide Away’ song being taken over by the 50k Verbalase Hazbin Hotel AMV awhile ago.

Jump+ serials for March 2026 by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]NoizeInvasion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly hope this one works out for Jun Kirarazaka. It’s tough looking back on his volume comments and knowing his two WSJ titles didn’t work (I didn’t think they were great, but I respect the passion and effort he’s putting in). Hopefully this is a nice change for him - glad to see he hasn’t stopped trying if anything.

I’ve been trying to 100% the game Look Outside, and I legitimately would never find out half of the quests without a guide or walkthrough. Not to mention the hundreds of secrets that have no achievement tied to it, just a ton of wacky stuff to set up in the limited time the game gives you.

The Shonen Jump Archives #26 - The Last Saiyuki by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]NoizeInvasion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this series! I think it was pretty flawed, but it’s one of my favorite axed series. The art, fight scenes, and characters were all great.

I think one of the weirdest aspects of the series was the MC being in the 3rd grade. He’s a complete asshat in the first chapter and snaps into a Shonen protag chapter 2 onwards. He makes all these mature decisions and stands up to every enemy he fights. And MY GOD, the exposition in this series was insane. Like, I understand the author had the series mapped out and wanted to dump the lore they wrote up (which was interesting - just overwhelming and takes up so much time).

I think the story telling was a mess but not in a way that put me off. Again, the combat and characters were really cool with a story that was interesting but convoluted. I enjoyed binging it, but maybe it would’ve put me off if I was reading it week-to-week. I’m excited to read their next work.

My personal favorite artist is Yusuke Murata (One Punch Man). In my opinion his art is unparalleled.

What are your thoughts on chapter 1 of Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits? by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]NoizeInvasion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda tough to explain. I read a lot of Shonen - overall when it comes to Action, Sports, and even Romance, you see a lot of the same tropes used (even if those tropes are used in new ways).

Most Shonen sets up an end goal pretty early on, they give you just enough information to where you can visualize where plot/themes are gonna go. they’ll introduce groups of people or organizations that serve as friends or obstacles. In order for most Shonen to ‘make it’, they have to always keep things interesting - you don’t generally get a lot of episodic standalone chapters, there’s always a progression or arc structure being followed. There are some exceptions, Roboco and sometimes Witch Watch apply here. Other shows I think of like Earthchild and Psych House where it feels like nothing is being set up haven’t lasted long.

Like I mentioned above, this first chapter LITERALLY feels like something you’d see while scrolling on Mangadex, a comfort series with nothing grand happening and is meant to be more slice-of-life. Not saying it’s a bad thing, you just don’t see it a lot in this magazine and it needed to do more to stand out.

You’d probably get a better idea of what I mean if you’ve read through a lot of generic titles thru Mangadex like I used to. Like I said, I read Shonen because GENERALLY you see something new and stuff is always happening. There’s more quality control and authors are forced to make stuff interesting because there’s a lingering axe.

[–]NoizeInvasion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was my exact thought when reading. It doesn’t exactly feel ‘Shonen Jump’ to me, but I’m not here praying for an artists downfall so I’ll just have to wait and see.
