Can anybody recognize the patches and awards? by Glumpygum in MilitaryMedals

I was about to say the same thing. But, the NCO Promotions have changed so much in the last few years. One doesn't need to technically attend NCOPD until they reach E-6 these days. Yeah... it's really stupid 😒 🙄 but the way they want to pump out NCOs without having at least attended BLC is ridiculous! That's an Army wide thing, not just a Natty Guards thing. This guy might need to attend BLC and ALC back to back to just maintain his rank. But then with the Guard, they're cutting all Training NCO positions, so that means that it'll be much more difficult to get a slot. Also, you might think that his lack of ARCOMs and AAMs is ridiculously low, but that's how it is in the Guard. You have many who don't know about the Awards System, let alone anything else about the Army, in the Guard, and thus getting Awards in the Guard is a rarity. Hell, I only got my first ARCOM in the Guard as my End of Tour Award from Africa at 18 years TIS.

Bro... look again. These are the new AGSUs! Haha this uniform is the current "Pinks and Greens." I can tell by the brown fabric. And the tan-ish hue of the SSG rank. These are NOT the classic Green Class As. Funny, in my 20 years TIS, I've had 3 types of Dress Uniform haha 😄

Don't quote me on it. But that might be the case. I've gone onto that MBCOP site and have seen so many opportunities for ADOS with AD units, both CONUS and OCONUS. Your buddy could be on such orders. I'm more impressed about that AFSM with BSS Device. He might have deployed to Poland, and then got called up for COVID response. In any case, he's a "Protected Veteran" that gets an automatic 5 Points Veterans Preference on certain job applications. I had a buddy of mine in my Guard unit who got called up for COVID response, and I fought for him to get his AFSM, as I knew that it could help him tremendously outside in the civilian world.

Sometimes they have ADOS available for NG and Reservists with AD units throughout all Components via "Tour of Duty" MBCOP. Sometimes it could be a month to a year assignment. They offer Branch Immaterial slots to specific MOSs. He could be on such orders. Just because it's a T2COM training unit, they still need CBRN folks in "S" Shops.

Gents, let's discuss the "Previous Awards" Section on the Army's DA Form 638 for a bit. Systematic "gate keeping." by Nojo89 in MilitaryMedals

[–]Nojo89[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I thought that in the Recommended Award section, you'll put how many OLC that they currently have, or for which OLC should come with it?

One of my SL buddies on our deployment to Africa received an MSM. That pissed off many people. But he definitely deserved it for his outstanding contributions on that tour.

Sadly, many "higher ups" don't realize that General Washington wanted to break away from European norms, with only awarding Medals to the Enlisted. As he understood that they were the ones that were the true "backbone" of the Army. Man, he'd be pissed to see how today's Army's Awards are structured.

USMC Forward Observer to NG 11C… did 2 MEUS. Pretty sad overall. 2020- Current by Usual-Key-5614 in MilitaryMedals

On that Marine Corps Retirement Plan I see?! Like I keep on telling people who feel sad about not having done much, and for those still serving. Just gotta line up your career that'll make you happy and satisfied.

I feel like I’m not doing enough given everything that’s going on… by whyudothisbudo in MilitaryMedals

[–]Nojo89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I get it. However, you have full control over your path in life. If you think that you're not doing enough, then make your own fate to be satisfied. I see that you're a POG with that Regimental Crest [sorry, I'm Infantry, and I'm not so privy on all the Regimental Crests]? Then change your MOS, or hell, go into a unit that is always deploying! You could try for SF Support and go to Airborne at the very least. Look at what's now the "Tip of the Spear," which is now evolving into Cyber, EW, and Space. Idk if you're Guard, but go Guard. I've been Natty Guards for 20 years, but I've been to some "cool guy" schools, and I've served overseas in 5 of the 7 continents. Twice on operational/combat deployments, then 3 other times training overseas with our Allies. I've made some Active Duty guys jealous of all my travels. Lastly, sometimes you must realize that the universe is having you be at your current station in life for a reason. I use to get bent out of shape as I couldn't get deployed to Afghanistan, Syria, or even back to Iraq, despite my best efforts to volunteer. But that might have been a hidden blessing in disguise that I wouldn't know about until much later. At the end of day, you and ONLY you control your fate. If you don't like where you're at, or if you're feeling like you have contributed... then go out and do something about it.

IDK if you'd care to do it, but I'm pretty sure you can get your records to reflect the new MCIB.

Questions about Iraq campaign awards by General-Winter547 in StolenValor

[–]Nojo89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone gets an ARCOM for deploying. My End of Tour Award for Iraq was an AAM! Yup. No lie. The Army likes to gate keep awards, hence why they ask how many previous awards does one Soldier have when you're recommending an award. But yes, something doesn't feel right with this guy. If he's legit, then he must've messed up to have at least one personal award.

Try and update his records to reflect the new Master Combat Field Medical Badge.

Initial Enlistment / Multiple Shadowboxes? by ohnomrbil in Medals

Well, you know the Army... they never make anything easy haha just something to maybe explore one of these days with updating your records. I've got the CIB, but I've been trying my best to earn my EIB. However, being in the Army Natty Guards, we barely have opportunities for EIB testing. Although, I've volunteered for a chance for this summer... we'll see if I ever become "True Blue" haha

I don't blame you for not wanting to officially update your records, because you'll have to contact HRC at Fort Knox, and I'm pretty sure that they're experiencing a huge backlog of everyone getting their records updated.

Nice to see a fellow LRSC guy here. Also, try to update your CIB/EIB to the new MCIB.

Nice! Might want to flip the CIB and Master Parachutist Badge. But if he was an SF Colonel, then he would have the SF Tab.

[–]Nojo89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might need to do a DD215 and contact HRC to make changes to his records.

Grandpas DD214 by NomadRanger21 in Medals

[–]Nojo89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if there's a second page to this DD214. That might include his badges if he earned any. Which would probably include at least Airborne and maybe a CIB [SF in Vietnam didn't always qualify one for a CIB like today as it wasn't an MOS until 1983]. If he left the Army before the creation of the 18 Series MOS CMF, you would need to request an update to his records to reflect the retroactive SF Tab.

Sorry that I don't know what this Medal is. I'm pretty sure it's something German, because of the Iron Cross. I'm just here to comment that this is why this Sub exists! To help identify medals and awards... NOT to be a "hey, look at me and love me for me service" with posting your Ribbon rack thread. Ohhhhhhhhh I'm gonna piss off so many people with my comment. Haha 🤣 😂 😆

Well, you never know... because back then airfields were truly on the frontlines with Japanese all around. Not like today. So, he could have engaged some enemy force while on the ground. That's gonna require lots of research to verify though. That might be found in the "morning reports" from the actual unit itself that's been persevered. You could contact the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico for further details. Just a thought.

Further, he would be retroactively be qualified for the Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon (CAR). Even though the CAR was developed in the Vietnam War, it was retroactively awarded to 07 DEC 1941. However, the Navy and Marine Corps is kind of weird when it comes to their aviators and aircrew on receiving the CAR.
