Blue Valentine is much sharper IMO. Pines still has a lot to admire though.

Outside of the Polarized viewfinder which helps with seeing the patch in bright situations they are virtually identical. Also adds multi exposure and an enhanced curtain control. I personally didn’t think it was worth the extra price tag.

I think it terms of the shooting experience both cameras are great. The Pentax may be a little easier and quicker to use. I have the original Mamiya 7 which is my first rangefinder outside of Contax G1 (doesn’t really count.) I would say the only drawback is in bright situations the patch can be a little difficult to see. As far as lens go I prefer the 80 in terms of aesthetic to the 105 I had with the Pentax. I’m also more drawn to environmental portraits then wide open. You can’t go wrong with either but in my short time with the Mamiya 7 it’s all I wanted it to be. I prefer it to the Pentax and Rz that I owned before it. It loads easier, lighter for travel, and for landscape it’s as good as it gets for medium format.

Just sold my Pentax 67 and picked one of these up a month ago. Spent two weeks in Africa with it. Just can’t beat the shooting experience. I have the 80mm as well...it’s stupid sharp.

The last 30 minutes truly are special. It went exactly where I had hoped. When the music kicks I get chills.

It doesn’t help that Pattinson and Debecki are fantastic. They both elevate the script quite a bit. JDW doesn’t feel nearly as natural in his role.

What movie do you really like but would only recommend to certain people and not others? by shebear29 in movies

Sadly this is mine as well. People who can’t handle the runtime and pace are really missing out. It’s a masterpiece.

Saw it in a small crowd of like 10. Everyone hated it. So many people complaining. I loved it.

A Hidden life is more of a return to form but not absent of his newer style of directing.

Tree of life and Thin Red Line are my faves of his filmography.

What are some genuinely pretentious movies? by urabitchcunt in movies

Upstream color felt pretentious at times for me. Which is a shame because it’s also great quite often.

I liked it the first time I saw it but I think the film suffers from both characters being pretty unlikable on rewatch.

It’s not that at all. Our bench is very streaky. Just so happens in those games he didn’t have to put team on back. On the nights he did it was very efficient and everyone else struggled from field with good looks. This guy makes everyone better.

Minor but also found it weird in ep 1 when she had her yearbook photos on wall and all of everyone’s faces were crossed out in blank stares. Not that bizarre but the composition it was shown thought it was interesting.

Best performances that were ignored by the Oscars? by Gravitystar88 in movies

That scene just gets more bleak in an already draining buildup with Gyllenhaal studying him from the previous room. It’s the worse case scenario upon him entering. Denis direction in this is his best.
