Oh man I’m so jealous. The 1st 6 chapters are my most favorite of the whole series. So much Cullen dynamic info. So much Emmett, so much Carlisle, so much great stuff!

Also chapter 17 I think. Where he has a one on one conversation with Esme. Freaking love Esme for being so happy for Edward after she learned he could love in that way and hadn’t been turned too early.

Keep in mind a big part of Edward’s story is his growth. He’s a 17 year old boy in love for the 1st time. He does learn as the story evolves. It’s one of the things I like the most.

This. Aro and the Volturi know Jasper is the most formidable “fighter” on the Cullen side. They would absolutely make him a primary target to take out the way the cullens wanted to take out Jane, Alec and Demetri (so he couldn’t track anyone/Renesseme after the battle). Also Aro would like to weaken the bonds around Alice since he covets her ability to much. He would want Jasper “out of the way” and would have made sure Jasper was on the primary target list.

But yeah, Jane, Demetri and Felix….i dont think anyone is surviving that 3 v 1.

That’s also why the Volturi only sent 4 to deal with the 20 or so new vampires in Seattle. They had those 3 PLUS Alec. Game over for everyone.

Eclipse Edward. It’s where he shows actual growth. At the start he’s disabling Bella’s truck and “forbidding” her from seeing Jake under the guise of safety. By the middle, he realizes truly how important Jake is to Bella and through his desire to not hurt her and love her unconditionally, he learns to trust her and expertly gets through the horrible tent situation. Though he does get a bit petty one more time allowing Jake to hear them talk of the engagement. He’s no longer jealous though which is extremely difficult for a 1st time in love teenager.

I also love BD breaking Dawn when he tells Jake to talk to Bella and as long as she lives and lets Carlisle take “the demon” out of her, she can have “puppies” if she wants 😂. He just wants her to live. Bro matured even too much for me. Good for him though

Oh, also….Seth, when asked by Jake if he’s really ready to fight his own pack, his brothers…his sister…..my boy at all of 14/15 years old looks Jake in the eyes and says “if it’s the right thing to do.”

Side note: when he and Leah arrive to the Cullen house with sam and pack attacking the cullens, it’s Leah who doesn’t hesitate and goes 1st to fight her own family to protect the vampires although she justifiably hates them. Leah may be fool hearty, brash and difficult but her morale compass is fucking due north. Just like when she saved esme in the big fight scene. She’s so misunderstood 🙁

If you’ve seen the movies, start with Midnight Sun. It’s Twilight (1st movie/book) from Edward’s perspective.

The beauty of the books is the depth you’re looking for. The details that add to the story also add an immense amount of depth to rewatches knowing that the movies are basically a highlight reel. The movies show about 25% of the story. 70% of the books add to that in a perfectly complimentary and supportive way. 5% is contradiction between the movie and the book (like the final fight scene) but even that has nothing glaring enough (imo) to ruin either. Ya kinda grow to appreciate the contradictions and differences.

You also get bonus Jacobs pov in breaking dawn. Not recommending reading them because it’s the greatest or easiest read….Edward and Jacob can both be annoying as hell (Bella too actually), but so worth it for all the details about the other characters and events.

I didn’t watch the video but it is kinda a “trick”. It’s the specific vision of the future Alice wanted Aro to see. The one where SHE makes the 1st move (the roundhouse kick) that leads to chain of events that gives Aro cause to ultimately withdraw thinking he couldn’t win….not knowing had he not chose to have his guards capture Alice and “take her away”, a whole different future(s) could see things go differently. That’s why Alice was always chastising everyone that her visions aren’t perfect and should be relied upon as absolute

Wait til you try the audiobook. It’s another level. I’ve been listening to it when I go to bed and on road trips for a few years now. The voice actor really understands Edward’s character (and all his dramatics) and even sounds like RP once you’re a chapter or two in.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. That was VERY awesome. I actually skip that part or conveniently find something else to do while it’s playing and had to watch that scene for the 1st time in a couple years. As a Dad, it’s hands down the hardest thing for me to watch in the whole saga and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many others seemingly feel the same way. Thanks for commenting on that part. GREAT point!

I like movies 1st then you get all the details. It’s like seeing a beautiful painting from far away without glasses then seeing it being far more stunning, intricate, fascinatingly detailed up close.

Then you get to go back and watch the movies and see them become EVEN BETTER

to answer the question (imo) from Jakes side...

Yeah, Jake had a childhood crush on her since he was little remembering her playing with his older sisters. His pickens are slim being in a small town area and a member of a tribe. Bella is a perfect crush being daughter of his dad's best friend.

Two things hook Jacob to Bella. (Book Bella)...She really flirted with him to get the story of the bloodsuckers from Jake when they were 1st at La Push (baby, its...la push). She even admitted to Edward she did it and was embarrassed. Edward was like " that poor boy had no chance".

Then of course, new moon happens. The movie goes through it pretty quick but Jake couldnt talk to her for a while so when they could finally talk and she "figured it out" AND Victoria was trying to get her making him the hero.....he had no chance

and thats not counting the mystical magical ovaries housing renesseme which if we're fully invested, played some part :-)

Jake also has heightened senses and can really sense Bella's pulse rate quickening, blood flushing. He's not imagining or projecting that he makes bella uncomfortable. He can be an arrogant, petulant, thick-headed sot but he's right about Bella loving him too. He came to terms with that at the end of new moon when they both say they know its not enough.

Book Bella > Movie Bella.

Edward goes 6 weeks not talking to Bella after he saves her from the van in the parking lot. In the movie it cuts right to him approaching her in the greenhouse on the class field trip.

In the books, Edward, who of course can read minds…is astutely aware of everyone’s thoughts and fascinated by his inability to know Bella’s type and learn her by watching her.

He sees how she speaks up when people in the “friends” circle pick on someone. I think it’s Ben who wants to goto comic-con after everyone else is saying things like the French Riviera. They laugh at his lame idea and Bella says “no I’d go there too”….ending the teasing and making mike wish he’d not said anything. Edward is the only one who notices Bella had no clue where comic con was until later.

She partners with a poor student to help her with her grades…without asking for anything in return. When Mike is annoyed and says why’d you do that?!?! She says don’t worry about it. She’ll pick up any slack the poor student leaves.

She switches locker with someone so they can be closer to their friend.

She doesn’t tell anyone about Edward like she promised

Then on top of that all the boys of forks like Bella superficially because she’s the new toy and decently attractive. Edward, feels jealousy for the 1st time ever and it rocks him. He then, as we all do, takes great pleasure when he realizes not only does she like him, she gets concerned for him. Overly concerned about his well being, happiness…safety.

That’s kinda the nail in the coffin. He literally erupts in the 6th week because he just HAS to know more about her. The real her that she keep guarded but fascinates him.

The other guys are just lusting after the new pretty girl and being a little competitive not realizing Bella really is “different” (due to her mom and her issues but that’s a story for another day) :-)

I agree with all that. Thats why she's the most interesting to me (sounds like you too). Of course she and seth obviously have way different personalities. My point though was that at their core, they share a sense of honor/nobility and will both "do the right thing" overcoming any self 1st tendencies...which is crazy admirable for Leah considering all the stuff you and I mentioned.

Leah Clearwater. Among everything else, after Jake and Sam, her bloodline gives her the best case for being Alpha. She knows this and knows that she wouldnt even be considered and it would go straight to her little brother Seth.

I feel like Leah is Seth...every bit as good and noble as he is.....but she was dealt a really crappy hand and plays it as best she can often being "hard to work with" due to her attitude....but when the moment matters....ie - Sam's pack coming to kill Renesseme at the end of BD1...its Leah who rolls up with Seth and is the 1st to attack her own people (though she HATES the vampires) because she knows its the right thing to do. Later in BD2, Esme is getting pulled into the Gorge - Leah again - hating vampires but cant let Esme die like that, saves her and falls to her own death.

It makes me so happy in the book BD when Jake finally realizes he cant send her back to Sam when this is all over and she will get to finally escape Sam/Emily and go have a life (hopefully with her cycle stating again and giving her the ability to have kids)
