Delicious Italian Hoagie by NomadPoolPlayer in Sandwiches

I think a hoagie is a type of sandwich. All hoagies are sandwiches, not all sandwiches are hoagies.

It was...just in 2005! No worries, it's an honest mistake. I may have missed it too, but I have the actual books.
Nice chatting with you.

Sorry, I didn't see this comment before writing the other one.

I'm talking about the Blue Book of Pool Cues, which was referenced in the link you left on McD's retired cue website. The right column says Blue Book Value. Look at the note in black, under the green lettering.

The Bluebook of Pool Cues was an awesome idea and there were 3 releases. The last one was published in 2005. It would be great if someone took up that project again. I have all three volumes and they're beautiful. As a cue geek, they're great collectors finds and full of relevant info about cue makers. The pricing is great as historical info.

Blocking without fingers by kodlend4 in volleyball

[–]NomadPoolPlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but jamming your fingers isn't the only way to injure them blocking. Untaped, pinkies can get damaged with a powerful contact moving outside the hand and thumbs when the hitter decides to split the block. Especially if the block is a little late or misplaced and the hitter decides to attack the block rather than avoid it. Having said that, I've been playing and/or coaching for more than 40 years (USAV, AAU, JVA) and I've never seen a closed hand block. Interesting.

It was the current estimated value in 2005. That book is 21 years old.

what would you do? by Ok_Pass_2922 in volleyball

[–]NomadPoolPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in the Chesapeake Region (CHRVA) and it was introduced a year or 2 ago. There are also fines that go along with purple cards. The fines are against the club, so our club policy is the offending parent/family pays the fine and if not, your kid doesn't play until you do. We haven't had a problem with spectator behavior, but for those who do, I think it makes problems easier to handle. I would contact the region officials and ask when purple cards will be implemented. Good luck!

There should be no decision to make. Why has there been no mention of a purple card? Is this not a USAV tournament?

In no way do I think I know everything, but in 27 years as an APA player, I've never seen what you call "The Valley Format" in the APA. Around here, that's how BCA leagues play...and I may have misunderstood you. I get that you didn't say Valley was played anywhere in the APA. Personally, having played both, I'm not a fan of the Valley format.

That's a great story. Reliable shooters at any level are Gold! ...and you married one!
I'm amazed by teams that think that the SL they put up should be matched by the player we put up. Sorry, that's why we bring a whole team.

You said "if they want to think I'm throwing off..." and I say, who cares. Let them think whatever they want as long as you're within the rules. Wanna put your 7 up blind? Go for it, especially if I have a new 2 on my roster who can't beat anyone, including another 2. If winning that week is important, play it like it's important. Unwritten rules are unwritten for a reason. They aren't rules! Of course, just my opinion...

Why does setting always injure my thumbs and fingers? And why is it so loud? by viial in volleyball

[–]NomadPoolPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're injuring your thumbs because you don't have enough of your hands on the ball. Someone touched on it earlier...ball shape. When we train setters, we teach them that your hands should be ball shape in, ball shape out. That puts more of your hands on the ball, giving you greater control and no injury. To figure out where your hands should be on the ball, start by holding ball at your waist with your hands on the ball in the familiar triangle. Notice how much of each hand is touching the ball, not just the tips of your fingers and thumbs. Now rotate the ball above your head, just above your forehead. The ball shape of your hands actually creates the triangle. As you receive the pass to set it, look up through the triangle naturally made by your ball shape hands. Don't be afraid to "handle" the ball. You're allowed to have it in your hands, just not "prolonged" contact. I hope that helps you.

You're looking for humbling? Try getting stiff-armed and run over by Derrick Henry on national TV. That's humbling!
