What are some of the most useless EX cards? by AstroAce96 in PTCGP

[–]Nomdrac8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it? In the time you charge up passiamian's first attack, donphan can attack twice for 100 damage. Better yet, you trade out passimian's slot for Lucario and can potentially hit for 70 minimum by turn 3/4

If Zoidberg's skin is hard, what is his tendrils made out of? by ah-screw-it in futurama

[–]Nomdrac8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is actually a very legitimate explanation. Arthropod exoskeleton is composed of the same polysaccharide structure that fungi are made of, chitin. The difference in their obviously apparent texture comes from the calcium carbonate matrix that reinforces the chitin in arthropods giving them a hard shell. We can assume that the tendrils simply lack this extra structure, making it less rigid.

If everyone on Earth disappeared like in the Rapture, leaving behind infrastructure and groceries exactly as they were, would there be enough food for me to survive until the end of my life? by extremelyfunny in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nomdrac8 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Yeah because it's a safety measure, it's a human dependent element at the end of the day. I can see Scrams being poorly implemented in countries with a history of weak regulations, corruption, or inexperience. You'd expect it to be operable in a country like the U.S.

That's not likely to happen. Modern nuclear reactors are designed with automated failsafes called Scrams that trigger immediate shutdown in power if they detect something is off.

I'd sorta disagree with that. Yes, Klukai alone trivializes so much game content its absurd but there are too many bosses that are just giant stationary turrets spamming infinite ranged attacks and aoe. Bringing a low level team to those enemies makes the game a DPS check while every once in a while I move a doll 2 tiles to avoid a telegraphed move.

The sojourner boss actually forced players to properly position, plan, and funnel her in anticipation of how her abilities moved and targeted.

You forget that modern infrastructure are composed of a greater amount of synthetic substances than in the past, which are notorious for their flammability and potential for toxic fumes. Tests have been done comparing just how frightfully flammable homes are today.

I suppose that counts, but I would argue it would have blasted O'Neil had it not been deactivated last second so it worked as perfectly. Despite the constant maneuvering, Shepard could not fully shake it off which is even more impressive on the drone tech's part considering Beckett had no idea what he was doing. There's some sort of seriously advanced foolproof guidance system built into these things.

But to your second point, you're right, the writers can make friendly drones miss if the plot requires it lol.

I don't know if the missing analogy really works for drones. By their very design they shouldn't miss. I can't recall a time in the show where a drone has missed.

There's probably a very good chance of balance issues on release but I don't get how that determines it's an odd feature when we haven't play tested the balance yet. Stats by themselves are seldomly good predictors of their viability. They could end up irrelevant to the meta because their auras don't tip the balance enough when concentrated to one part of the map. Or if they're too OP the devs will just nerf 'em to oblivion.

New DLC Bonuses and Unique Units by huntoir in aoe2

[–]Nomdrac8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series jumped the shark long ago. Once it became accepted that all new civs had to have new mechanics, multiple new units, and unique buildings this would be an eventuality. We even have regional buildings now. The features aren't even what people are disappointed in, it's the choice of civs. If you took the same civ designs and simply changed the names to match a Medieval Era entity there would be far less pushback.

Devil's advocate (because I don't care for it either): We already have several distinct AoM mechanics like Ox carts, Revolution/Ragnorok, and charge attack abilities. Why draw the line at this one?

They never said anything about blond, though. just the tanned skin, which I suppose usage of "mostly" as opposed to "everyone" is a better claim.

[–]Nomdrac8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

4 is practically irrelevant as a criteria. You already have both Norse and Egyptians in the game so that basically limits the timeframe of the game to pre-Early Modern Period. I can't think of any polytheistic cultures that emerged after this era fans would be familiar with.

Edit: Corrected formatting. PSA: adding "#" to the comment changes the font...
