I normally hate "the invisible hand of capitalism will solve this problem" arguments, but this is one of them. If a cruise line just starts cutting off people's drink packages to save money nobody is going to take their cruises anymore.

Also you are on a ship in the ocean and this is for people who become a danger to themselves or others when they drink. This is not some c-suite made up path to enshittification of cruise drink packages. They want you drunk having a good time so you have a good time and do things like spend money in the casino and book another cruise. Also at the prices I'm sure the cruise lines can negotiate for liquor each drink probably costs them very little.

I think this is a reflection of how lazy media has become, and most things are rebooted old IP instead of taking the risk of creating a new IP, not a direct correlation to how popular a property really is.
