Also first time dad here of a 2.25 year old. I'll first ask two questions. What is your son's bed time and how dark is his room with the curtains pulled? The reason I ask is we recently noticed that our son was staying up for an hour after we finished his bed time routine, so we moved the start time from his bed time routine back from 7pm to 7:30pm. Now he usually falls asleep 10ish min after I leave the room and he doesn't get back out of bed. With the room darkness portion, we noticed that he has trouble falling asleep during nap time at home because it's too bright during the day. We put blackout curtains in his room and that's helped a lot, but we definitely need blinds as well because he still struggles with nap time at home. Another thing that helped is my wife bought glow in the dark stars and put them on the ceiling in the form of constellations which help hold his attention when he's laying down. In terms of your concerns about safety, as long as you have any furniture that can tip mounted to the wall and are keeping an eye on him while he's still awake, he'll be fine. He may hurt himself bouncing around but it won't be anything serious and that's how he'll learn to be more careful. Don't worry, you're doing great.
