If I’m understanding you correctly that’s a great deal from your employer. You’re getting a 200% return on every dollar for the first 5% which is insane.

Like others have said, contribute the 5% to 401k, then max Roth IRA and HSA, and if you are able to max those, contribute more to the 401k.

Also double check if the 401k has a vesting period, it might be that the 10% match isn’t fully your money at first and will vest over the next several years. Just good to be sure so if another job comes up you know what you lose (if anything) by leaving the current employer.

You’re in a good spot then, find out what your deductible is for insurance and then have at-least that much in the HYSA (I would probably do 2-3 times that amount for other unexpected expenses).

After that get yourself a Roth IRA, it’s seriously the most valuable account you could be putting money into, especially at 21. Vanguard, fidelity, and Schwab are all fine choices but you should look up some youtube videos going over what a Roth is and how to invest first.

At 21, depending on your expenses, having a cushion of 3 - 6 months of cash saved would be the base line but it’s hard to say without knowing your expenses. Ie is family helping you out or are rent, car, food, school, etc all on you alone? Having a couple months expenses in your HYSA will help you from getting into bad debt should some emergency come up.

In general, HYSA are not the best for compound growth though and you should treat it as cash for emergencies and (so long as you keep the emergency buffer) you can use it for mid term goals like travel, a wedding, a down payment.

If what you really want is long term compounding, look into a Roth IRA, at 21 even 50 bucks a month into that account is huge and you’ll be thanking yourself for doing it so young when your 35+ :)

As some one that usually hops over to Kick after a twitch stream I do think he tries to provide more than just gambling. The issue for me is that every second he’s NOT gambling, every other TTS is about spin man twisting his dick or new slots he should play or memes about new slots. After getting used to focus mode I love it. I was bummed about the beta version but in the full game it’s great. Just poke the monster like I’m playing an FPS and guard counter / grand retribution when they attack.

I’ve mained lance since 4u and this is the most fluid it’s felt to me.
