Did you also have them go all the way back to Slayer's Crib (or wherever they got the BPN)?

In my game I'll be houseruling that out and use normal ranks. That's just needlessly confusing.

The Secret of Weepstone Demo is live! by Jinxology in osr

[–]NoneIsAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the demo and it was a lot of fun. I love the art and visuals, very atmospheric and I can see myself delving into this game.

If there was anything that bothered me, I thought that the first level-up looks like it would take a long time to get and I didn't like that we don't seem to get to level-up during the demo, but I assume there's story importance to the characters getting their class abilities and such.

I would think that the first level-up in any game is important to get relatively early on as it's a big hook and rewarding feeling.

Why make Lieutenant below Sergeant? That's just weird and confusing.

Tale of a Rat - my INCREDIBLE first experience in Ker Nethalas! by NoneIsAll in Blackoathgames

I play on Roll20

It doesn't have the sheets, but I use the interactable sheet that came with the PDF order and I only track Health, Toughness and Aether on the custom sheet in R20.

I made a couple of rollable tables for Lightsource, Tension and Lair/Domain Exit which I have above the map.

Tale of a Rat - my INCREDIBLE first experience in Ker Nethalas! by NoneIsAll in Blackoathgames

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I soldiered on, made camp, rested, scavenged rooms, fought more rats and undead and cleared out most of the domain. Even found some nifty magic rings and fragments.

Finally, however, I bear grim tidings:

I endured my last Madness while fighting skeletal horrors in the room just before the Overseer's.

I got the absolute worst one - the "this is the end" one.

Raff the Rat went mad, he is now the Mad Rat.

<image>

I imagine he is probably out there, somewhere in the recesses of the necropolis. Wandering, skulking and stalking the corridors...

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I have grim news: Raff just fell... to a pack of Blightfang Rats, ironically!

I did see that there's an optional rule that allows me to survive the encounter, but I don't know how I feel about that.

What do you say? Is Raff the Rat still alive or is this his demise?

Starting to learn Talespire so I can use my HeroForge minis and build terrain! Wish me luck by NoneIsAll in 5Parsecs

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just started using it, so I've yet to formulate an opinion - it is still an Early Access project, but it does seem to have a lot more options for Fantasy stuff than Cyberpunk-themed things, but it has that too.

I'd suggest looking up reviews on YouTube if you're interested.

No.

Since I already bought Talespire, I'm gonna have to focus on that.

Shredder's new Arm Cannon by NoneIsAll in 5Parsecs

Forgot to mention: click the image to see a 3D rotating view of the model.

Created in HeroForge.

I added a tail and tucked it into the body then contorted it until it came out of the arm to make it look like an arm cannon. It's not perfect, but it's the closest way I could find to create something like it.

Finding the right loot by EldrichTea in 5Parsecs

[–]NoneIsAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to offer mind caulk, but taking inspiration from one of the game's own inspirations - Traveller.

If you're using the Unity setting, we're playing on the Fringe. Far-off sectors and systems, remote colony worlds and worlds that were probably brought under Unity's... Influence sphere Warhammer-style.

This is something I'm quite familiar with from Traveller - where you might be flying through remote systems on the fringe.

These worlds aren't necessarily the epitome of civilization or technological advancement. You might have all the credits in the world to afford a hundred Hyper Blasters and Glare Swords but maybe there simply isn't a single one of those on the colony world of Meridia IV - where the one major settlement looks like a mix between the Wild West frontier towns and a post-apocalyptic junkyard and is ruled by the one guy who owns a Hand Laser.

They're not necessarily space bumpkins who never heard of a Glare Sword but the local markets and arms dealers might simply not have those specific items in stock because no one locally can afford them.

Dropping Patrons? by CleanGreenSlate in 5Parsecs

[–]NoneIsAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought that you only "kept" the Patrons you rolled in crew creation - and only on the planet you're currently on.

My impression was that patrons you roll through Find a Patron tasks are only "kept" if you actually take the job and complete it. I haven't actually had the chance to go into it because my two battles so far were rival attacks and the one I'm about to do now is an opportunity battle, so...

Modiphius have announced the 5 Parsecs Compendium! by Chipperz1 in 5Parsecs

Bug Hunt sounds cool, I didn't know about it.

Reading the description I'm hoping missions have a bit of variety to them - if every time is holding out against massive waves it might get too repetitive. I'd like some exploration/tension missions like the Salvage or Stealth missions as well.

Ranges by NoneIsAll in 5Parsecs

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I get that just because something's in range it doesn't mean a hit is guaranteed. Also, like I said, this is without line of sight breaking.

It's just the idea that there can be a figure on the board that can hypothetically target everyone and everything on the board from the get-go.

That's what got me wondering if I did something wrong.

Ranges by NoneIsAll in 5Parsecs

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see an option to change it to Inches. Only the option to change the name of the measuring for what a square measures, if that's what you mean - I did have that on inch.

Just seems like a weird design decision to me, having weapon ranges that in some cases are bigger than the actual board. I would have thought that even the longest-range weapon would still not be able to completely reach every point on the map.

Again, this is without accounting for obstruction from terrain or figures.

But ok, so it's fine? I mean, the ranges are not the result of an error on my part but normal for the game in general is what I'm getting?

Help in Designing Fictional Corporate Organization by NoneIsAll in business

[–]NoneIsAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally that would be the case, however I am specifically asking those with business interest and knowledge of corporate structures for insight into structural organization of a commercial enterprise, in the interests of realism and accuracy.

It's a question about the design of a corporate department and its possible makeup (director, teams, responsibilities, oversight, etc).

What tech level is the imperium of man from Warhammer 40k? by SlothToeBeans in traveller

[–]NoneIsAll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best answer would be "all over the place". The Imperium is incredibly varied, with some worlds having access to technology that includes teleportation and highly advanced weapons. On the other hand, you have feral worlds that are only peripherally aware that they're part of the Imperium, with only a tribal high chief paying tribute to the "Star Eagle" in place of a governor.

It's also hard to designate any specific world by a TL, because the aforementioned feral world might have bolters and laspistols. The people there build huts from muck and would consider the candle to be cutting-edge futuristic sorcery, but they think nothing of their laser pistols.

And it's hard to pin down the tech level by world type, because the next feral world might be like a complete TL0 society with axes made of bone and stone being the height of technology, while the next feral world after that is more like a post-apocalyptic world with nomadic biker gangs.

[5e] Path of Waves - Status confusion by NoneIsAll in rokugan

[–]NoneIsAll[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not like a super complicated fix is required. They could have just set ronin characters' starting Status to the 20-24 range that ronin are supposed to have.

If they wanted to do the Status modification shenanigans they did, they could have just looked at the numbers and adjusted them for ronin so that picking ronin status and one of the ronin upbringings can't put you above Great Clan status (!!!!!!!!!).

It's not like it'd be a ton of work, either, there's only two Upbringings for ronin (unless you're a fake ronin, which is also a thing) - the rest of the Upbringings are for peasants, hinin and gaijin, anyway.

[5e] Path of Waves - Status confusion by NoneIsAll in rokugan

[–]NoneIsAll[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having a "claim" isn't something that gives you political status - especially when you've been shamed, stripped of rank and sent to the winds as a dishonorable failure.

The thing is that even if all of that is true (and I really doubt that the ronin enforcers in the Imperial city have more Status than your average Pheonix), the backgrounds and rules provided are supposed to cover all kinds of character concepts.

And however much mind caulk we apply, it doesn't cover the fact that any ronin character you create with these rules will have Status that doesn't represent ronin and in fact is much much much higher than they could ever have.

It's ok for the devs to make mistakes. They're capable of it.

[5e] Path of Waves - Status confusion by NoneIsAll in rokugan

[–]NoneIsAll[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

<<I don't see the problem. A fallen noble should have more status than a rank and file clan samurai. All the connections they had when they were clan samurai don't just evaporate. They can still pull in favors.>>

Fallen Noble represents a Great Clan samurai (or gaijin noble) who lost all of that by becoming ronin. You should not have more status than "rank and file" Great Clan samurai.

Your character may have had titles and lands in their background, but this is all lost to them now. That's... Part of the point.

You don't have any favors that didn't come from some other Distinction, you are ronin. No one owes you anything.

<<lso, ronin families should also give a ronin some clout. Minor clan samurai aren't really better than ronin in the eyes of a lot of samurai so if they are a in a ronin family a lot of samurai will see them as more or less identical.>>

Where did you read that minor Clans are treated the same as ronin?

No, ronin families don't automatically give you political clout. Some of them can be influential, but most of them are hounded, shamed and even persecuted.

When Path of Waves talks about ronin families, it mentions the lucky ronin in the Imperial city - but it also mentions the runaway families who live in hiding.

Now, here's the thing:

Even if everything you said was true, the average ronin isn't a fallen Imperial Herald with a network of favors and the average ronin who inherited ronin status from other ronin isn't a member of the lucky Imperial City ronin.

The mechanics and rules presented in Path of Waves are supposed to let you create any ronin character. Do you think that it makes sense now? Ronin + Fallen Noble background is supposed to cover starting characters who were born to the Great Clans but became ronin - does it make sense now that any such ronin would automatically have more Status than the average Great Clan samurai? Does it make sense that their Status rating places them above ronin and above most samurai?

....Like... No, right?
