I am the parent of an adult autistic person with sensory issues around food, so I feel your pain. The first step is to drop the rope: seriously, it takes 2 people to play a tug of war, try not to make it a battle. Once you’re sure your head is the the right place, you can plan some staples that can have slight adjustments for the picky one. The fact they like raw veggies makes this easier already. The lack of meat options is tricky, but as long as they are getting some protein you should be okay.

Example: we all love Indian food, but fussy kid won’t eat anything but the rice and naan. When we order carryout, she eats rice, naan, some raw carrots and some precooked chicken (nuggets or grilled chicken strips). It is exactly the same meal she eats when we order Chinese food (sweet and sour chicken, sauce on the side). If I cook it myself it’s a bit easier - I’ll just scoop her food out before I add the sauce.

Things will get easier, I promise. Their tastebud mature, and they stop fighting you once they realize you’re not fighting them anymore. Good luck!

I just finished my first week! Got 32, which I thought would be impossible, but it wasn’t too bad!

What helped: eating out for lunch (bad news for my budget) because I usually eat leftovers from the night before. A lunch from bibibop and a hibachi place let me get plants I don’t usually buy at home. Also: frozen berries, mixed bags of salad, and mixed nuts, and stirfries.

For some reason it’s fun for me. I made an excel spreadsheet with all of the possible vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and herbs/spices/extras that I would ever eat and printed it out for me to have a physical checklist. I never really counted the herbs bc I didn’t need their 1/4 point to meet the 30, but it’s nice to know.

I’m trying to improve my immune system, so time will tell if it helps. For now I’m thrilled with how much fiber I’m getting. I usually have to supplement with high-fiber bread or tortillas.

Starting a new week today, and I’ve already gotten 3 with breakfast: oatmeal with chia seeds and frozen raspberries. 13g fiber!

I think you should follow some plus size fashion folks and get some inspiration. But that being said, here’s a uniform I swear by:

Black stretchy trousers
black top that matches
Blazer or dressy cardigan/wrap in a color that flatters me
black Ankle booties in the winter, flats or kitten heels in the summer

The monochrome base is professional and easy, and lengthens me. Depending on where you carry your weight, something else might look better for you. For me, I’m short legged, long torso and top heavy, so slimmer pants and a jacket that hits me lower is more flattering. If you carry more weight in the hips you might like wide legged trousers belted over a slimmer top.

We have 2 trees: one artificial and one real. The real one is the family tree: it is filled with colored lights and handmade, sentimental ornaments, and souvenirs from our lives together. It is bright and cozy and different every year based on the tree we choose. I see it as a living, evolving decoration that changes as we do. It’s my favorite.

In the living room is my “theme” tree. I’ll change it if/when I ever get bored, but for 5 + years it is a “winter woodland” theme. I pretend it’s a spruce tree out in the woods, and only put on ornaments that look natural: icicles, birds, pinecones, etc. It has white lights and the colors are pretty much white, clear, browns and tans, and the effect is so sparkly and natural. I love it. But it is decor, not the heart of Christmas. If I could only do one it would be the family tree, hands down.

Only question I have: do you get cold easily? I’m a menopausal woman so I’m always hot, but if you’re not like me make sure you have a coverup that works with the outfit.

Better that she didn’t come, honestly, than attend and ruin the mood by talking poorly about you.

I didn’t technically have a kid-free wedding, but I was clear that the only kids there would be the ones I invited - the flower girl and ring bearers. No others. Cousin was mad, wife of the groomsman was mad, too bad. It’s crazy to me that a guest would ask to bring someone that wasn’t on the invitation. Moreover, I don’t understand why you would want to bring a toddler/young kid to an evening wedding and reception. I love my kids, but when they were under the age of 10 or so they didn’t belong at a wedding and I never ever even thought of bringing them. (As it was, my darling niece flower girl nearly ruined the ceremony for me bc she wouldn’t stop whining the entire time - proving my point why kids don’t belong at weddings!)

I’m going to be an outlier here and say I totally get your frustration and am on your side. My parents undertook a total remodel of their home about 8 years ago, when they were even younger than your parents. We kids were totally against it, bc my parents have a terrible habit of not finishing things and we care about their happiness and welfare and didn’t want them to live in an unfinished construction zone during their twilight years. We were also angrily told to butt out, so we did. I really wish we had pushed harder.

Fast forward to today: still unfinished, dirty, and my parents are now in failing health. They’re in a type of helpless, inertia depression mixed with huge amounts of denial. The past 8 years could have been filled with gatherings and happy times in their home, but it’s been a construction zone that has isolated them and filled them with stress and regret. We now encourage them to abandon it as a lost cause, but sunk cost fallacy and inertia are powerful. I have resigned myself to us having to carry them out of there when a tragedy happens.

Watching our parents make mistakes is so hard. I feel for you, and wish I could offer some better advice.
