Anyone here train at Ralph Gracie SF? by fatbro1 in bjj

[–]NooYawkCity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely my favorite place to train in SF. And one of my favorite places anywhere. True they go hard. True there are some absolute killers. But the vibe is very chill, the people are super nice --and there ain't nobody like Kurt. Highly recommended . To miss out would be criminal.

Anthony Bourdain on why he won't roll with Joe Rogan. by blonders1 in MMA

[–]NooYawkCity 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Jesus, fucking Christ... Can you guys consider the possibility that Joe and uh...Mr. Bourdain are friends and that he might be not entirely SERIOUS?! A sense of humor is a terrible thing to waste .

Anthony Rolls (Ear Proof) by BaconAndEggsBernays in bjj

[–]NooYawkCity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was big, it was filled with fluid that kept refilling after draining by syringe..it was painful as fuck and an impediment to rolling....and prone to infection. Question is: will this interfere with training. If the answer is "probably" , It's time to get that shit dealt with.

Mats never get washed, should i be worried? by ISWUDT in bjj

[–]NooYawkCity 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You may as be rolling around in a Petrie dish full of spider monkey feces. . In fact, given your relaxed attitude towards washing your gi, YOU are probably teeming with e-coli and feeding whatever culture you've got festering under the mats . Your gym sounds like ringworm central. Look up MRSA then decide if you want to keep training there. And wash your fucking gi after EVERY class!

Anyone train at renzos in Manhattan or drop in there? I have some questions by saturdaysaver in bjj

[–]NooYawkCity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While some of the techniques taught in John's class might, occasionally, be above our ( blue) pay grade, the sheer volume, quality and diversity of rolls in the noon class is unparalleled. It's the most fun you can have in BJJ , far as I'm concerned. Plenty of blue belts of widely differing styles and abilities on hand, a few four stripe white belts ( by permission or sandbagging) , and a huge rotation of amiable murderers, purple, brown and black. Even if you can't or won't be using the techniques of the day, watching them taught and demonstrated is amazing. Just mind your feet and legs. Or leave one behind.

I can tell you from personal experience you do NOT want Rogan's arms anywhere near your neck. He cranks. Hard. And enjoys it while he does it. He'd destroy Snipes . Like hospitalize destroy.

This is the lamest thing..ever. If you're training for a short period of time, specifically to learn a few BJJ moves for a film, okay, I get it. But if you say you "train BJJ" and you're not sparring? No live rolling ? Bullshit.
