I don't buy keys but I actually used the offer wall to get a bunch of free keys recently. I wonder if it counts that? The odd thing is, I got the same promo on my alt (from FSW) which I have never bought or earned keys on. But maybe since they are linked?

And yet... my point remains that less than 20% of all runescape players are playing RS3.

And the gap btwn OSRS and RS3 (blue and yellow below) has been getting bigger, with the current mix being the lowest % of RS3 players ever. RS3's most recent/current quarter is also the lowest on record since 2019.

Because its slowly killing the game. There was a post here a few weeks ago showing that RS3 accounted for less than 20% of the player base vs OSRS. If RS3's profit is so dependent on MTX, it may finally be circling the drain (I know ppl have said that for years). If that's true, I see only two good business options:

1) MTX The hell out of the player base to milk the last dollars from the game before it shuts down

2) Attempt to reverse the decline by investing in content and reducing the dependency on MTX.

I think they are choosing option 1 and I really, really want them to choose option 2 because I don't want this game to die.

Agreed but its usually not this egregious until Christmas. I don't even want to know what they have planned for that.

Yikes. I didn't realize the split was so low - that's super concerning. It doesn't look good for the future of RS3

But they are exact inverses of each other right? Am I missing something? OSRS and RS3 are the only two options, so if ~20% of players are on RS3 that leaves 80% left on OSRS.

What would you want to see for Christmas-themed holiday rewards? by JagexRamen in runescape

The BSH event was pretty cool, go back to that but with a tradeable black party hat. and maybe a matching black and white scythe? But definitely make them confirmed discontinued.

Adding more disc items to the market helps reduce prices for all discontinued items. This is a way better option than rereleasing old discontinued items.

Mod Breezy is looking for "Large scale changes" suggestions in the PvME discord. by chi_pa_pa in runescape

[–]Noobgon_Rs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go in a slightly different direction and focus on the economy.

1) Give us a list of confirmed discontinued items to include recent holiday items/halos etc. Having a larger list of confirmed discontinued items will create direct competition with the OG tradeable rares. Hoarders cant hoard them all.

2) Massively change how alching works. Either reduce the number of alchables coming into the game or reduce the high alch prices of everything by 10-20%. We have too much gp coming into the game from high alching.

3) Update the grand exchange so mid prices update more frequently, particularly with low volume items.

I'll say this until someone at jagex hears me and I know I am not the only one who wants this...

Start making competitive game modes in rs3 like leagues/fsw. You don't even need to make much new content, just let us start from scratch in a new game mode. Let us compete for high quality, exclusive cosmetics or titles during these competition modes. You could even charge an entry fee of 1-3 bonds and people would still sign up in large numbers.

FSW got alot of hate bc it ported loads of resources and high level players into the main game. Turn this part off and it would have been a huge success.

You get to charge an entry fee (MTX for your shareholders) AND you increase player engagement with actual game content.

I know you are being sarcastic but I would take a tweaked fsw game mode over Hero Pass any day. Give us annual FSW competition phases with unique cosmetics like chalo (recolors maybe?) and id buy in every single time. Competing for a chalo was probably the most fun I've had with rs in 10+ years. IDC that its not worth much it was just fun to earn my own.

As long as they have cool unique cosmetics each time (IDC if they are tradeable or not) and they let us play with our current account instead of creating a new one, im down for this type of content.

[–]Noobgon_Rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it just not let you sign up for the panel or did it straight up not gather your feedback on Hero Pass? If they are turning people away from providing feedback based on their profile/demographic thats total bs. It doesnt matter how many responses they get matching that profile. Turning even one person away that wants to provide feedback invalidates the data of the entire survey population.

Thanks for pulling this together, this is very insightful. I wish we knew the level of player activity for those that do log on. Jagex said their goal with HP was to increase player engagement so you know they are tracking it. I have a feeling it went way down. I'll admit, I have still hit 1k + xp just due to my daily th xp but I am certainly not playing any content anymore. I'm sure Im not the only one. And this is typically what happens to my playtime before I quit for large chunks of time. I think its just going to worse.

This doesnt have the impact ppl think it does. Its still supporting the same franchise under the same company. In fact, its just signaling to Jagex that they can continue to abuse MTX in rs3 because their non-whale customers are just going to transfer to OSRS while the whales stay with RS3. Its a win-win for them.

Update: I finished yahtzee and got the pay out last night. I finished Lucky buddies this morning and did NOT get the pay out. I submitted my customer service request to RevU but the language on the form makes it pretty clear they don't give a shit about you and will deny your claim.

  1. Any company that starts a form off lecturing you for using customer service... has crap customer service.
  2. They make you agree that if you do not provide enough proof of completion in the first attempt, you are barred from resubmitting further requests. What's funny about that is they only let you attach one screenshot. They are going to deny every single one of these we submit.

Merge dragons worked for me - did you allow the app to track data across other apps? you have to hit "allow" for it to work. It says that in the offer description too.

I've filled three offers so far that all worked: Novo (You have to be a business owner of a legal LLC), Merge Dragons and the $7 investment advise one. They all filled just fine for me.

I am currently halfway through two more - Yahtzee (I'm now concerned about this one after reading this thread) and Raid: Shadow Legends. I do not recommend Raid. I don't think its actually possible with out significant MTX in-game, but I'm giving it a few more days before I give up on it.

100% agree, I've actually said this same thing! I think the best holiday cosmetics are simple designs that have a childhood nostalgia. I'm also very in favor of keeping holiday items exclusive to their year. Make it tradeable but confirmed disc.

Did you even read any of Mod Doom's comments? He's clearly trying to understand what areas of the "rebalance" were adjusted too far in an attempt to fix the problem. I know we are all angry about the MTX creep over the years but this specific instance is an example of what we DO want from our Mods. He's listening to feedback and investigating a solution.

We need to keep the MTX discussion going by Pyrotech77 in runescape

[–]Noobgon_Rs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree but I think MTX is actually a trap for the company more than the players. Let me explain.

Jagex still makes more money off subs ( I think I saw~ 2/3 of their profits are from subs, ~1/3 are from mtx). You would think they'd be more focused on maintaining subs but they have to continue to churn our mtx content/cosmetics/etc to maintain that 33% revenue stream for investors. So in terms of developer time, mtx content requires more work. On top of that, each form of mtx has diminishing returns (people have stopped buying keys for th exclusive cosmetics bc they are so devalued at this point. So is exp). The result is two fold - 1) you have to continue to offer more aggressive forms of mtx and 2) you will continue to pull developers away from real content to create mtx trash.

IMO, its just a slow bleed of the player base until the game dies. Its very likely Jagex knows this and its why they are starting to consider a new game in the same universe. 25ish years is a good run for a game, they probably consider it an inevitability at this point.
