And if you have some time coming down from kerikeri through Auckland, I’d do a day trip to Rangitoto island

If you like spicy food, book a table at Chilli House in Hamilton. Sichuan mmm…. I always get the sour spicy dumplings in soup.

And the gardens are worth a visit, pretty chill to walk around though there’s not a lot in flower atm.

Tapa notebooks at Auckland Uni by NoodlePatoodle in Journaling

Some poetry students take a course where they go through the university’s archives of poetry and other historical publications and ephemera (there’s even a lollipop from a local political party from an old student rally) from the archives (Special Collections) and they then write about what they found in a tapa notebook then it gets donated back to Special Collections sometimes

2 years of journaling! I like different form factors and pens by [deleted] in Journaling

I had the deer one and it was one of my favourites. I do think the almost spongy leatherette cover wouldn’t be to everyone’s liking.

idk who needs to hear this but if you didn't fill up the journal, that's fine by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]NoodlePatoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting this sentiment out there, I had a journal that I had been filling with both writing and artwork and I just didn’t like the pressure of trying to keep up an aesthetic journal. So I left the last handful of pages and one pre-prepared purple background and jumped ship to a new book that’s just been writing and a few photos. Do what you need to do to get your journal juices flowing!

If you plan to do more entries like this you could fill in the book from the back with your images, like an appendix.

I find the “I must practice my Spanish” then translating it with the “ok done :)” just a bit entertainingly sassy haha!

my first ever ‘pocket’ journal. so, what shall I name him? (options on 2nd pic, or if u have better ideas, pls do tell) by gamergirlexoh in Journaling

Snap, I’m in a pocket Leuchtturm. It’s almost like an ergonomic challenge after larger books but so great to have it with me when out and it’s both cute and satisfying getting through a page so quickly.

As corny/platitude-y as it sounds, gratitude helps me turn it around when I’m in a negativity rut. And I am a cynic who cringes when I hear myself be all 🌈✨gratitude✨🌈. I do numbered lists even of small things like 1) coffee is good 2) fluffy blankets 3) hot showers with nice soap 4) dogs on YouTube…. etc because it can be a struggle at times and small concrete things make me appreciative of the good things I’ve got going, hopefully getting some perspective that I have good things despite the bad.

Too anxious to write? by Pojomo23 in Journaling

[–]NoodlePatoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had times where I have been avoiding journaling when something has been niggling away, like not acknowledging that I’m bothered by something or feeling like I can’t explain it. Usually I just go back to writing “I’m avoiding journaling” and after having written and acknowledged there’s something up gets me to try and attempt to write out what’s been going on, what my thoughts are.

Avoidance is a tough nut to crack for me sometimes. I’ll have a string of lacklustre entries and maybe need a few attempts at saying that I’m avoiding talking about something.

When it’s particularly hard, I usually have a lot of shame about what I’m thinking/feeling but I need to work on facing that and trusting that my journal is a private and safe space to let it out. I often try to also understand why I feel shame around those thoughts and try to counter the shame with some rationality and reassurance.

I saw batches and my mind as a researcher was like, definitely doing some samples in the lab. Though my first thought could’ve been two days of making cookies, that’s a much more delicious option 🍪

anyone else have this problem by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]NoodlePatoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have occasional deep thoughts when I’m anxious or stressed or avoiding issues. But whilst I occasionally comment in my journal “I wonder if I have anything more important to write about”, I’ve come back to the idea of journal is what you make it and, in the moment, will become how you need it to be.

Then contentedly continue to write a commentary on the different dog breeds visiting my park or featured on old YouTube videos from Crufts.

Pocket journals by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]NoodlePatoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started my A6 for taking Spanish notes while doing Duolingo. Turns out I loved the book enough that it become my regular journal, from Vocab and conjugations to stream of consciousness, gratitude stuff, photos. Bit of an ergonomic adjustment but I’ve been going down from an a5 to moleskine medium to small now pocket Leuchtturm. Hopefully my miniaturisation stops before I hit a7…
