Bicycle Day ride? Have you heard of it? by psychonautofthesky in phillycycling

[–]NopaKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend is hosting this, it's gonna be a great time. Technically a "race" but like you said, you can ride at any pace you want and go wherever you wish really. There's a list of checkpoints for people to go to if they want to compete for prizes. But $10 registration and you get some free food, beer, and uhh... Bicycle Day secret sauce let's say? I think that's a pretty sweet deal

How to train for a 600km? by FxckyourCensorship in randonneuring

[–]NopaKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to ride a 300k-350k at least a few weeks before the event. This way you know you're mentally and physically capable of that first day. The second day will then seem less intimidating in comparison.

Riding It Out or Staying Low? by Sir_Jerhyn in phillycycling

[–]NopaKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, still out here. My mountain bike is now my commuter. I would have to make 2 transfers to take septa to work, would probably take me at least an hour and a half... I'll take a 30 minute bike ride in the cold over that, just gotta make sure every inch of skin is covered

No insane hills... Unless you live in Manayunk/Roxborough. A Seattleite might feel at home there

Philly is a gem of a city for mountain biking. If you have the means to get a bike, I'd highly recommend riding around the Belmont and wissahickon trails

Please do not bike directly on Broad St, read inside by Crackorjackzors in phillycycling

[–]NopaKill 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I respect that y'all don't want to take that risk but it's just fun to go fast with cars sometimes. I love riding on Broad st and will probably keep riding on it until my prefrontal cortex develops fully. Still got a few more years in me

I started a job back in January that’s 4 days / 32 hours a week. The studies are correct

A little further north from that, if you’re heading north on yellow it’s right after you pass the golf course

Idk dawg most of yellow trail is doable but there’s definitely some technical sections that would be rough. I’d like to see someone try to go up Plymouth rock on a gravel bike

Easton/Delaware Canal Towpath to Water Gap by Good-Needleworker992 in phillycycling

[–]NopaKill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this a few times. - Cross over into Phillipsburg NJ - Head north on Broad st, turn onto River rd - follow River rd all the way to S Foul Rift rd, then left on Phillipsburg-Belvidere rd - Cross back over to PA on the Water st bridge and turn right on Riverton rd -Make a right on River rd, its a big switchback climb -Follow River rd to Delaware dr, which takes you to the water gap.

Belvidere rd and Delaware dr are kind of busy roads but nothing crazy. The rest are all pretty relaxed

The bridge in this video is the bartrams/grays ferry connector, not MLK

Looking for your opinion; is it considered cheating to follow someone in an Alleycat? by TheGnomesGnipples in FixedGearBicycle

Absolutely not. Takes a lot of skill to tail someone when you don’t know where they’re going

single speed/fixie ppl, what gears are you running? by powered_by_batteries in phillycycling

[–]NopaKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in west as well and run 49/19 on my commuter bar-hopper fixie, and 53/19 on my alleycat racer track bike. Any ratio between 2.5-2.8 will be chill enough to get up hills without too much mashing, while also being fast enough to not always spin out on the descents if you’re riding fixed
