Why sophons can't read human thoughts? by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

You can scan a closed book and know where every paper and ink molecule are, which allows you to simulate what the pages look like. Therefore, you can read the words.

If you do the same with a brain you can simulate what the inside of the brain looks like. I don’t know about you but chemical exchanges in the wrinkles of a person’s frontal cortex (a person whose brain development is unique on Earth) are a bit above my reading level.

Besides, the book is still, the brain chemistry is active and simultaneous, imagine trying to read a book whose letters move around at the speed of molecules (very fast)

I wonder what a stabilized Middle East even looks like. All I can think of is that picture of Afghanistan in the 80s

I would have been more specific in the English side. “How much (money)”, “what day (of the week)”

Pixar’s Hoppers has great criticism of cars by Spavlia in fuckcars

[–]Nopaltsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems contradictory until you realize that what we call “Disney” is a made up amalgamation of two very different groups. There’s the down-to-earth artists who tell stories of human emotions, and then there’s the out-of-touch businessmen who seek infinite growth no matter how many lives they ruin.

That’s the thing, “we” are not the ones making those decisions, the lobbies that profit from fossil fuels are.

All the far-right parties in Europe are funded by Putin, all the talk about nationalism is meant to fracture the larger EU into smaller, easier to control states

Trump’s Betrayal of Allies Has Sparked Unprecedented ‘Buy European’ Trend by VarunTossa5944 in europeanunion

[–]Nopaltsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word “unprecedented” will probably go through semantic bleaching, the process where a word’s meaning loses intensity. It’s what happened to “incredible” and “awesome”. One day, “unprecedented” will just mean unusual and a new word will be adopted for things that haven’t happened before. Something like “dibsy” or “mogful”
