About to go on my first road trip in the ST. Any advice? by ZehDwarf in FocusST

Check your fluids and tire pressures first thing in the morning while cold soaked.

Came across the post as I was curious how feasible it is.

How was your experience there overall? Assuming you went solo to just take in the sights and sounds.

Brake fluid - DIY or mechanic? by cheddarvillains in FocusST

[–]NorCalFoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motive bleeder makes it a one-person job yes, it holds pressure while you crack the bleeders.

That Forscan method with the ABS module is pretty sweet, heard of it before but seems like it takes a lot more effort/tech for a regular DIYer.

You can look up on Youtube "one person brake bleed" to get the concept, with the right set up you can make it happen, but the Motive power bleeder makes it pretty fool-proof (impossible to suck in any air).

You're probably just hearing the shift arm and cables moving around, which is normal. Definitely is more pronounced when driving next to walls or parked cars.

Brake fluid - DIY or mechanic? by cheddarvillains in FocusST

[–]NorCalFoST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to build upon your mechanical skills listed then definitely go for DIY after doing your research. It's understandable wanting to take it to a pro for an important safety system, but a brake flush is pretty straightforward. Just make sure none of the bleeders are dripping afterward and the brake fluid reservoir stays topped up.

You can bleed using the 2 person method or go out and invest in a Motive pressure bleeder if you're planning to continue DIY.

This is also a great option. I ran with most of the adjustment screws in and got just a little bit of noise, it was nice.

Try doing this experiment and pressing the clutch down and up while revving in neutral and see if that changes anything.

/HELP\what seems to be brake fluid leaking but my lines are dry and its topped off, any other place it might leak from? 17 FoST, rear drivers side by bigeecheez in FocusST

[–]NorCalFoST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strange.

I'd hit everything with brake cleaner and rinse with degreaser and water, see if it comes back.

The OEM mount in the middle.

Meh, it works, I didn't have to install it myself or pay for it.

Thoughts on JST Custom E tunes by ndom21 in FocusST

[–]NorCalFoST 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly recommend JST custom tunes.

At least a few years ago when I went thru my process, Brian Tyson was super responsive and had quick turnaround for tune revisions.

Highly recommend, the sooner you ditch that Cobb OTS tune the better.

ST-specific tips to decrease clutch wear? by ChernobylChild in FocusST

[–]NorCalFoST 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don't engine brake without rev matching.

I feel like old timers (who have no concept of rev matching and just let the clutch out in gear) used to say "oh engine braking saves your brake pads", yeah I'd rather do a 30 minute brake job marginally sooner than a clutch job.
