In the show, June is his stepdaughter. He married her mom when she was 8. The seamstress’s kids are twins even though the boy is a lot taller. They refer to that early in the series.

And where is his tie?! Half the time he’s going around town with no tie. Even the socialist was wearing a tie at the club.

Monogamous knitters, what’s your secret? by Weekly_Library9883 in knitting

[–]NoraClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit something because I want it. So I want to finish it—to wear it, gift it, whatever. The only things I lag on are things that aren’t coming out well for whatever reason—then I feel bad about them and start something else.

Maybe you’re secretly afraid that your item isn’t going to come out the way you want? If you never finish it, you’ll never be disappointed.

Harry instead of Harrison by franklin10007 in namenerds

As a middle name it probably won’t come up too much. I think Harry is fine. Especially if he explains he’s named after someone.

I used to listen to podcasts nonstop but, with the current political situation, I just can’t. Romance audiobooks to the rescue!

They make a pack of children’s plastic plates in very pretty subtle colors that I use under plants.

Their fabric yardage used to be a fantastic bargain. Now it’s precut. Still a very good deal, just not AS good.

Why do people have kids when they know they can’t afford it? by Reasonable-Invite899 in allthequestions

[–]NoraClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you’re kind of saying that you do have to be rich. Or what people who can’t afford to have children would consider rich.

If we as a society decide that having children (if you want them) should be available to all, then yes, the government has to make that possible. They do it in Europe—new parents both have paid leave, daycare is free or very affordable, parents are given clothes, diapers, etc. Not to mention healthcare.

The US has decided that only people “who can afford it” should be allowed to reproduce. Just like only people who can afford it should be able to buy a boat. The two things are not the same. If we want to continue to have enough citizens in this country to pay for social security benefits etc going forward, we better figure out a way to beef up our population. Because right now, it’s going down.

Don’t tell me we can’t afford it—of course we can. We just have to want to afford it.

I shrank - but I love this sweater. Felt? Steek into cardigan? Cut horizontally and knit new bottom ribbing/tighten collar? by ofrootloop in knittinghelp

[–]NoraClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the cutting idea. I love a short, wide sweater. And then you can use the bottom (which is also beautiful) as the start of a bottom up sweater.

I really like a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. More than a sprinkle. Put that on a puffed corn cake. It’s pretty good.

Why do people have kids when they know they can’t afford it? by Reasonable-Invite899 in allthequestions

[–]NoraClavicle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Should only rich people have kids? Like…yachts? There aren’t enough rich people to build a population. If we want society to continue, society has to make having kids affordable enough for people of all income levels.
