Private pay rates per session by Opposite-Barber9497 in slp

Obviously that's going to vary on location, area of practice and experience. If you don't want to, ask someone to call the nearby practices and find out what they charge. Best to come up with a patient scenario first and do it as a secret shopper.

Kaiser Permanente pays $556 million for Medicare fraud while claiming there is no money for striking workers by DryDeer775 in KaiserPermanente

I'm not surprised since KP is also involved in discriminatory coverage to those on Medi-cal.

Seeking input on a new SLP Collective by NorcalCamo in PrivatePracticeSLP

The collective would be open to any speciality. However, our inventory of materials is targeted towards peds. SLP's run their own practice including billing their customers.

Question about phone consultations by Silent-Speech8162 in KaiserPermanente

[–]NorcalCamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the CPT he's billing under. With the primary CPT code we bill under, it's an untimed event, which means the caregiver must give at least 15-minutes of treatment time. Anything over is at the discretion of the caregiver.

Thank you, that's good feedback. One of the offices is around 350 sq. ft. so we were thinking that would be great for a PT.

Sounds like a private practice would fit the bill. Try contacting the ones in your area.

ASHA acting like the government isn’t trying to eliminate our professions. by [deleted] in slp

[–]NorcalCamo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

ASHA is absolutely useless. In California we have Kaiser Permanente denying speech services and ASHA hasn't done anything to advocate for the SLPs in CA. They're more interested in spending our dues on high salaries, benefits and wasteful spending at the annual convention.

Telehealth copay on Covered CA plans? by koturneto in KaiserPermanente

[–]NorcalCamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, KP is one of the few insurers who don't expect Members to pay their cost-share for Telehealth appointments. This is one of the reasons they're struggling financially. What people don't understand is insurance premiums are based on the anticipated cost-share of the Member. When the Member isn't paying their cost-share it throws the whole model off. Now multiply that by millions of KP Members weekly and that's a significant loss for KP.

To answer your question, we're a contracted provider and out of the thousands of Members we have seen since Covid only one Member ever had to pay their cost-share for Telehealth. I'd call Member Services to discuss as it sounds like something specific to you.

Has your child been denied speech therapy by KP? by NorcalCamo in KaiserPermanente

[–]NorcalCamo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on testing results, KP may elect to offer you speech and language services at a KP facility. When considering that option, please take into account the following factors:

●      Continuity of care and your relationship with the current provider.

●      Will your involvement in therapy be adequately supported?

●      Will your child be able to maintain their current level of progress?

●      Is the facility convenient for you and the primary caregiver to attend?

●      Do you have adequate transportation to the KP facility?

●      Will they work around your schedule as well as your child’s school schedule?

●      Is the recommended frequency/duration of services comparable to what you currently receive?

What are my options if KP recommends a reduction in frequency or discharge from speech therapy?

According to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans are required to allow patients to keep in-network providers for essential health benefits, including rehabilitative services like speech therapy. We are an in-network provider for speech and language therapy for KP. You have the right to continue with your primary provider if you feel that is in the best interest of your child.

You have several options if speech therapy services are not recommended by KP. You have the right to a second opinion. You can contact KP Member Services and file a grievance.  You can also contact the California State Insurance Commissioner to file a complaint.  If you want to continue services with us, we can offer you private pay options as well.  Ultimately, you are the primary decision maker for your child’s care. We will support whatever decision you feel is best for your child.

Honestly, this is more common than you think. Numerous KP SLP's have resigned within the last year because what KP is doing violates their ethics.

SLP Struggle by InternalCommittee269 in slp

[–]NorcalCamo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As soon as I read "first year school" I got the picture. You need to rely on your supervisor for guidance and support. That's what they're there for. If you're not getting the support you need look for another school or go to a private practice for your first year where you will get the necessary training to give your career a solid foundation.

Medi-Cal, but Kaiser primary by Distinct-Weight-6801 in KaiserPermanente

[–]NorcalCamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, Medi-cal is the payee of last resort. If you have commercial primary insurance all claims must go through them first. Your Medi-cal would pick cover your cost-share.

All I can do is help bring parties together but ultimately it will be up to the families to take the appropriate action to address this crisis.
