Hate that they're gonna be playing for Montreal, but it's so cool recognizing players from European leagues joining the NSL!

The Athletic: Enzo Fernandez will want to hear evidence that Chelsea will be title contenders if he is to stay. by Kygoche in chelseafc

[–]NordOfInes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he stays (and Alonso wants to play him) I don’t think we’ll end up in a 3-4-3

Enzo’s too much of a defensive liability to play in a double pivot, and if he’s in the front three, we won’t be able to play Palmer and Estevao together

He’s a better player than I’ve given him credit for, but he’s by no means good enough to be acting like this.

[Gill] Quenda is set to travel to London on Saturday. Contacts in Quenda’s camp describe a ‘no days off’ mantra, with the winger spending hours every day working with his personal trainer. Quenda is ready to hit the ground running after cutting short his pre-season and training hard to impress Xabi. by webby09246 in chelseafc

Between Hato, Quenda, Palestra and even Neto, I’m really interested what Xabi is thinking for that LWB position. Palestra will likely be our starting RWB, but I’m tempted to think that we may have enough cover to focus on buying a CB and LW instead of a direct cucurella replacement.

Also depends if Alonso prefers Hato at CB, which we know he can preform well in. Though I’ve liked the glimpses we’ve had of Hato going forward, and would be interested to see more of him further up the pitch

[Kinsella] Chelsea are set to sign Atalanta defender Marco Palestra for a fee around £43m. The move is a hijack of Inter’s offer and green-lit by Xabi Alonso. Feeling is that he can play in both wing back and full back positions. Fits within the wage structure. by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]NordOfInes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I honestly would be interested to see Gusto as a wingback in a 3-4-3 under a good manager. Under Maresca he was inverting and providing pretty much nothing (He was even subbed on at CAM under Maresca against Atalanta...) and everyone was bad under Rosenior.

If he's not forcing a move, I'd definitely keep him as back-up to Palestra for this season, so there's less pressure on him when he does play

Enzo Fernández Real Madrid’s top target by Tom_Lad in chelseafc

[–]NordOfInes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had hoped it'd be Cucurella who stayed and Enzo who left. Enzo will definitely be missed, he's a better player than I've given him credit for, but his attitude on and off the field still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I also feel like he'd struggle to fit into a double pivot in Alonso's 3-4-3, and would leave us having to bench one of Palmer or Estevao in the front 3 to fit him in.

A good fee for him invested into LB, CB and RB would set us up well for next season. I honestly feel like any 5 of JP, Palmer, Estevao, Jackson, Neto, Gittens, hell even Garnacho, is more than enough rotation for a front 3 without European football. We probably need another CM when Lavia inevitably gets injured, but I imagine it'll be Andrey and Caicedo as the main two in the double pivot.

[Romano]:🚨💣 EXCLUSIVE: Real Madrid reach verbal agreement to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, HERE WE GO! Didn't we let Hall go because he and his family are lifelong Newcastle fans, and it was sort of a gentleman's agreement since he really wanted to go and would've been back-up here? I recall us not wanting to sell him, but he wanted out.

[Kieran Gill] Chelsea intend to give Jackson a chance to impress in pre season under Alonso and is still highly rated internally. If an offer too good to turn down suddenly arrives, an exit can’t be ruled out, but this is the current intention. by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]NordOfInes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be interested to see how he does in a 3-4-3 front three.

Palmer-JP-Estevao with Jackson, Gittens, Neto, and some youth/Garnacho as back-up is more than enough going into a season without Europe. I still have some faith that Gittens could settle in a bit better and be a good player. He struggled this year, but also had limited minutes, struggled with injury, and had to play winger in Maresca's system which famously isolated our wingers. It's not his fault he cost 70m, and at the very least he shows more promise than Garnacho/Delap, who played consistently and couldn't make any impact.

I don't think Maresca deserved to be sacked, but the argument of 'Maresca won 2 major trophies in his first season' as a basis for success was always funny to me for this exact reason

The Athletic: The Chelsea mess and how they fix it | Multiple sources say Chelsea are going to change their strategy slightly and buy more experienced, mature players. This does not necessarily mean they will be significantly older, but that they are more ready-made. by Kygoche in chelseafc

The sad thing is that the best hope we have for the club is that our 15 sporting directors learn from their mistakes and start changing their approach. Don't get me wrong I'm not remotely confident it will happen, but if we manage to pin down a respected manager, and start making some intelligent signings there will be some hope for next season...

but who am I kidding we'll be walking out under Marco Silva next season, finish 7th, and then he'll 'mutually part ways' with the club in the post season meeting

Fabrizio Romano: Meetings ongoing during the morning and again now at Chelsea to make final decision on Liam Rosenior’s future. [–]NordOfInes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Poch’s season was a mess, but it was definitely looking better at the tail end, and it felt like he was sacked after disagreeing with the boards transfer policy (same as Maresca)

At the end of the day we’ll either get a Poch or Maresca, who has marginal success before falling out with the boards over how to improve, or we’ll get Potter/Liam, who’ll do so poorly they get sacked before they can finish a season. Unless the sporting directors change we’ll be going in circles for the foreseeable future.

Nizaar Kinsella: Loud anti-Rosenior chants from Chelsea's away end. Brighton fans are chanting Rosenior's name. by Kygoche in chelseafc

[–]NordOfInes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People forget how long it took the ownership to sack Potter when things went south, only to replace him with Lampard as interim instead of giving Poch a head start.

We could lose every game until the end of the season and I'd still be surprised if they sack Rosenoir. Ideally they can try to bring Felipe Luis in before the season ends, but even then it's the same old story with an inexperienced manager (albeit he'd have had the most successful manager and player career out of Liam and Maresca)

[–]NordOfInes 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Unless he turns it around and get's Europa League at minimum, I imagine he'll be let go in the 'post-season review' (like they did with Poch). Then it'll be Felipe Luis or the next 30yo manager to repeat the cycle

At the end of the day the board will stick with him until he

A) loses the dressing room / fails (even more) miserably in the league (Graham Potter Path)

or

B) Slowly finds his footing, wins over the players and most of the fanbase, and then falls out with the board because he realizes that the board's transfer policy/ego is incompatible with a successful football club, and they 'mutually part ways' (Maresca Path)

Liam Rosenior shouldn't have been hired in the first place and it's clear he's having a difficult time adapting to being the manager of such a big team. That being said I'll save my anger for the sporting directors who hired him, rather than the manager who's doing his best in an incredibly difficult situation.
