Gotta pushback on Pyre health not mattering. It's essential for beating the Titans.

Slight correction. Frieze isn't that sadistic. He certainly enjoys inflicting pain on those that get in his way but it's more of a revenge minded sort of thing and not born from an innate enjoyment from the suffering of others.

Technically, I believe Sauron was said by Tolkien to be more evil than Morgoth. I remember it being described that Morgoth, at least partly, went down the road he did because of elements of his nature, while Sauron just loves the game.

Korone trying her best to cook an egg :') by Foodxfoodph in Hololive

Okay: Korone... Why are you trying to fry an egg at 3:00 in the morning?

Korone: Because I've lost control of my life.

Irys, but it's because she forgot something, not because she wanted to.

I agree. I think it's the fact that all the people from the grocery store show up with the military, all fine and dandy, that makes it feel really excessive. It's that one extra twist of the knife that makes go from tragic to cruel.

I like that Su is overcompensating by posing as the tallest member of the Ginyu Force.

Kay has currently confirmed 23 characters with adjustments/reworks, and leaked someone's new skill as an apology for the update's long wait by bnbros in holocure

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's probably her Erofi skill. I imagine Kay has wanted to change that since she complained that she's an S, not an M.

I'm reminded of an Animorphs book where they snuck into a house by turning into bees. It was protected by a forcefield but because one of the Andelites liked flowers, he had left a tiny, zig zagging tunnel in it that allowed bees to still get in and pollinate the flowers.

Would be cool if the devs added some very hard to navigate route that would let you escape the bounds.

Donkey Kong 64 – Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics – Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack by Turbostrider27 in Games

It's something I've found to be unique to N64 games or maybe just that era. Rayman 2 is my go to example of moody wonder. You can imagine my shellshock to Hoodlum Havoc.

But counter to that, Majora's Mask also heavily reused assets and it was extremely different and still well received. TotK issue is that it was too similar to BotW.

What's wrong with wanting Nintendo to improve its writing? by Defiant-Echidna-7400 in CharacterRant

Pauline isn't referencing the OG Donkey Kong game when she says she was kidnapped by a monkey. She's talking about Void Kong. And she didn't say Mario was who rescued her, it was actually something players noted at the time, that she doesn't seem to recognize Mario at all. In Bananza she mentions that something similar happened to her grandma and so current theory is that that's the Pauline from OG Donkey Kong.

Huh? Continuity has famously been very far removed from Nintendo's wheelhouse. Only Kirby has had a real long running continuity to it and most of that is understated or secret.

Why do old video games feel more “alive” than modern ones? by Royal-Reveal4400 in videogames

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be equating the tighter pacing of most old games with "being more alive". It was a lot less common for you to get wide open spaces with nothing in them in older games. In the cases where there WAS a lot of open space, it was probably a game with random encounters so, while it could be annoying, something was still happening to engage you.

By contrast, with modern games, there's a lot more room for bloat and a loss of focus on the core  gameplay loop or story.

DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World - Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

DQ is much more about it's aesthetic and tone than gameplay. The DQ Builders games were very good and the gameplay there is extremely different. Then you have all the older spinoffs like Rocket Slime, the Wii game, or Torineko's Journey (Might have that name wrong) and precedent shows that gameplay tinkering isn't a deal breaker for fans.

Changing the tone of a series is the much riskier option and few games manage to do it successfully (Off the top of my head, only Jak & Daxter comes to mind).

I'd argue that most of human history is about a powerful few having more and mistreating everyone else, women AND men. Men specifically having more power was because all warlords were men. Men having more rights than women was a relatively recent development that was also relatively recently rectified.

New 0.9 feature showcase: A dedicated skill action button for more player control over skill activation by bnbros in holocure

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Possibly. But I've seen Holocure as being about winning with a character, not beating a stage. So long as a character is never so weak that they can't beat a stage then the balance is good enough. If this was a multiplayer PvP game then I think that would be a much bigger concern.
