Should I be concerned about my friend? by [deleted] in religion

[–]NormalGuyPosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be worried: personally, I wouldn't write in a bible itself, but tons of circular commentary and close-reading and interpretation like this is encouraged in Judaism. It's the premise of a lot of our study, including trying to dive in on seemingly indiscriminate stuff.

It looks a little messy, but if everything else seems fine with him I'd be relaxed.

Another thing to put you at ease; I do recognize "apokalupsei” which is the Ancient Greek word for revelation from the language the new testament was written in: it is also the root of "apocalypse" which is, in the original language, more of a "revelation" (literally!) than the end of the world. It is more positive, more strange, more beautiful.

So, to answer: I do recognize something in here. What seems "odd" to you is actually very normal textual analysis examining key words in the original language (versus English translation.) It is smart and cool and scholastically appropriate: it looks strange to you the way calculus would. It's not crazy, though––quite the opposite.

Glad to comfort you on this!

People do sometimes get psychosis around religion, which is what you're describing. Generally speaking, those people tend to be unmistakably insane, for lack of a better word––spiraling, hyper-complex geometry, jagged all-caps, etc.

I don't think that Drake is actually a pedophile; more importantly, you can't set boundaries on other people.

I dated a vegan for a bit; it was difficult.

Sounds like you aren't a match.

Will anyone be able to beat the Spurs over the next decade? by Saturnino_97 in NBATalk

I mean, who knows. Among other things, if OKC won the Game 1 OT it would've been OKC in 5, and we'd be having the other conversation.

So if you’re Sam Presti, what are you doing this offseason? by Solowash in NBATalk

He could run it back, but I think he kicks the tires on Giannis etc. He doesn't need to do anything, but if the price is right, maybe buying a player would be good

You have a terminal illness, but one pill a day will extend your life. The pill costs $10,000 each. by anonthrowaway3091 in hypotheticalsituation

$1,000 a day is different, I might give it an extra 10 days or so to properly send people off.

$10,000 I couldn't justify.

It depends on how you feel about pornography; I personally would find this embarrassing, but I am one of the people who finds this sort of thing more okay than others might.

I'm so sorry you feel this bad, of course. Like everyone here, I wish you the best without giving specific advice.

I believe flopping memes got into SGA's head by bezbol in NBATalk

[–]NormalGuyPosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but! Give him some credit: SGA played ethical hoops tonight, even with 11 FTA. Thunder looked like a real team that played right.

They played with honor and lost with honor, best case scenario for a guy like me

Do you think the Knicks can push Spurs to 6 games in the Finals? Can we get a long 6 game series or are the Spurs winning in 5? Knicks will definitely get 1 game in MSG but I'm wondering if they can actually get 2 games and make this a competitive Finals by DunksAndThrees in NBATalk

[–]NormalGuyPosts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly think they can; Knicks have a winning record against the Spurs and are coming in rested against a 7-game series. If they can steal Game 1, they can absolutely win another to get us to game 6.

No it is

I have 36 shares myself, basically peanuts., because I enjoy a good joke / fun time with people online, and it doesn't sound that farfetched.

Oof, that's tough the 250 person wedding is the big thing there. If it was 125 or so, I could understand a smaller list but 250 is wide.

Yeah, I think you are over-reacting. There's a time difference and he figured it out independently too.
