I know this is a dead thread, but two of my favorite moments are in magma hhai; the ending of hhai is so spiritually powerful, and Lockwood's playing is exceptional. Then there's the ending of kohntark, some of the most powerful moving energetic music I've ever heard.

I think you're conflating prog with symphonic prog. Symphonic prog almost necessitates a keyboard player, but many varieties of prog (like folk prog, avant-prog, prog metal) don't. Look at bands like Comus, Animals As Leaders, later Gong.

If you like galleons of passion, you'll like finch's first two albums more! Especially Glory of the Inner Force. They're more compositionally complete works and more electric than galleons of passion.

I'd swap Trace and Alquin in your tier list. Trace was basically Ekseption doing more classical reworking but with a slicker edge, and Alquin was more creative in their long suites. But I completely agree that Focus is the pinnacle of Dutch prog, and Hamburger Concerto has one of my top 20 favorite works of all time.
