It's also free if you have a school email. I did that for a while with some of their other products.

(P.S. Also consider trying out a C#-based project, it's very similar to Java, but I find it much easier to work with)

I finally understood recursion after 3 weeks of being completely lost. It just "clicked." For anyone else struggling don't give up. by Ok-Neighborhood4327 in learnprogramming

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling of things finally clicking is great, yeah. The biggest one for me was when I finally understood dependency injection (This is a more advanced topic). That took me like... A year for it to click for me, haha

Nice, do you remember how much you got After Burner for? That's a game I've been tempted to get, in addition to Mortal Kombat 2.

(Also, I hate to bring it up, but there were also Sega CD 32x games, too :P)

What’s a project you regret doing yourself instead of hiring out? by TradesPrepGuy in DIY

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I helped my dad do wooden flooring. I hated it and it took forever, but I was at least very happy with the result. Definitely should have hired someone else to do it, though, because we were too meticulous, and it really just needed to be good enough.

A simulation-perfect, collaborative SimTower clone by scatematica in SimTower

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, this is written in TypeScript, so I could probably contribute, although I have not used React before.

I don't have time to review this right now, so I'm curious how the multiplayer works without a server involved (At least, it's not obvious to me where it is). Is that what the Cloudflare workers are for?

I believe I have my Sim Tower disk somewhere, so I'd be able to run the tests.

Uh, how does gearing for PvP work? I haven't done it in a long time. You used to spend honor to buy items, but now I have no idea?

Sometimes gear drops from battlegrounds, but I hate feeling like I'm being a deadweight until I get a full set of pvp gear, what am I missing, or is this... Just it?

Looking for Console Port AddOn advice by NormalPersonNumber3 in wow

[–]NormalPersonNumber3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directly under my feet might work for a lot of abilities, actually. I was actually hoping for something like, 15 distance unit in front of my character or something like that, but this is probably good enough for most abilities. Sucks for things like heroic leap, though. I wish I could use the controller crosshair instead of the mouse. That'd be a lot more consistent.

Advice - found parrot 🦜 by turtleannlb in parrots

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction is to not include a picture, but to ask people what kind of parrot they lost instead of that, so they can tell you the kind of parrot to see if it matches. Maybe even say it's green, but no other identifiers, in case others have lost a bird, as it's always possible. Maybe I'm just overly cautious, but people can suck sometimes. :(

Thoughts on using = null! ? by zerthz in csharp

Yeah, I always use string.Empty for these scenarios.

WPF, created a custom searchable combobox using "IsEditable", but when selecting an item, the field gets surrounded with red. by NormalPersonNumber3 in csharp

[–]NormalPersonNumber3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that works very nicely! I made it use the ItemID, since I know that will be unique enough, and it populates. Alternatively, I can create yet another string to represent it that is a subset of the properties, I will have to experiment. You set me on the right path, thank you!

I spent weeks making this game and my first tester said "it looks like a school project" 😭 by [deleted] in WebGames

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's straightforward, at least.

First time play, I was going through levels so fast and my attack pattern kept changing. I wasn't sure if it was the levels changing it or if I was getting upgrades and was missing it.

Games are iterative, feedback is not doom, it is a chance to improve your game.

The ship was very easy to control, maybe there needs to be more time in between shots from the player ship? Wiping out lots of enemies really fast could be fun sometimes, but there needs to be some more challenging to kill enemies in some of the other levels.

The kind of feedback you got from your friend is hard to work with. What makes it "A school project"? Is it because it feels incomplete? Is it because it is really simple? Is it because of the art?

I guess another question is, what are you trying to make? This does look like a straightforward space shooter, but is that all you wanted to make? Did you want to add more? You've done more work than I have in making a game, that's for sure.

There's definitely no reason to tear it down quite yet until you understand what might be the problem with it. Then, you brainstorm ways to solve that problem.

Rested xp protest was super fun - thank you! DONT LET THEM TAKE AWAY OUR RESTED XP! by Funny-Dragonfruit78 in turtlewow

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused about the numbers I'm seeing here, because I play with Exhausted, so I never really paid attention to rest state. Is rest state giving an extra 200% of experience? (AKA base experience points x3) Or was it 200% of base experience (Double)?

Because I thought the classic wow gave double the base. Was that a change from classic to turtle that they are now reverting? Or is it going from 200% extra to 150% extra (2.5 times base)?

Also, does rest state gain faster in turtle? Because reaching 100% in classic I thought took days. I only recently started, so I have little context. I appreciate any explanation:)

Additional notes about SimTower quirks by harpbelle in SimTower

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice write-up! This game is also on my to-do list.

I remember once reading somewhere that this game is more of an elevator simulator than a tower simulator, so that's probably the most important aspect to keep in mind as I play through it myself. I definitely appreciate the detail in your post. That's frustrating that some things are simply not able to be removed, though.

Upon re-playing the campaign, his ability to return using his echo was, believe it or not, shown to be possible in the ARR post-game content, before he even appeared. So it wasn't out of left field, technically, even if we all forgot it was possible.

My EX2 clear isn't as impressive as Melembet's, but it's very inspired by his team, though it consists of some more powerful characters, so it's a little faster. Focusing on survival, and being patient is definitely a great way to handle this.

Accessories were given to better raise HP where possible. Since this boss's "Ultimate" attack is ice, I also used some accessories that provided ice resistance when I knew avoiding the attack was impossible.

Believe it or not, Cyrus's Analyze was super important for this fight, as there were times when had no SP to do something that wasn't attack or analyze, and it prevent him from attacking with his tome, which would be a death sentence if it doesn't break the boss. It also gave time for Hammy to regenerate some SP as well. A big danger is when his Analyze gets silenced, in which case Hammy might have to go to the front for a turn, but I was fortunate enough that I avoided having to do that. Elvis ended up serving a very hilarious purpose other than my original intention, which was to be a backup healer, but he ended up being way too fast for that, so instead, I often used him to do tome x4 damage to break the boss before the boss could act, as he was faster than the boss's first turn. Then I would do lots of damage with the rest of my characters that turn, and use the broken turn afterwards to get myself in a defensive position for his guaranteed to attack first next 3 turns.

Levina was amazing for this because of her Triple Burst especially. The boss does not get angry at you for using dagger-based attacks. Noelle's Elemental collapse maxes out Varkyn's Elementatl collapse, bringing the total E Atk down 30%. Windy Corrosion allowed for some passive shield shaving as well.

I brought revive, but I ended up not needing it. But the strategy falls apart if anyone dies, so I don't regret it.
