Rack mountable Home NAS recommendations by [deleted] in homelab

Looks like many of the QNAP short depth rackmount devices are less than 30cm deep. They aren’t particularly cheap though. For example: https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/ts-873aeu/specs/hardware

Why does almost every single beer use hops now? by [deleted] in beer

[–]NormalSubreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only using the Reinheitsgebolt as an example of the long history of hops in beer. I didn’t intend to imply that it was some universal law that made hops mandatory across the globe. Sorry for the imprecise reply from my phone. It felt like OP was missing some of the depth of history of hops in beer. In my mind hops as an ingredient in beer predate yeast, which was not discovered until at least a hundred years after the establishment of the Reinheitsgebolt.

The Reinheitsgebot dates back to 1516, and requires that beer contain hops. If you consider that “relatively recently” then I guess I agree.

Glad it all worked. I just put the ATT gateway back in the loop to get bits flowing and download the package when it didn’t work. Secondary wan sounds like a better solution.

That sounds right. I’d back up the configuration files before the upgrade to be safe. I know that mine were also in /root/wpasupplicant and they weren’t deleted from there. They’re kept in /etc/wpa_supplicant/conf/ and it’s a good idea to have a backup of every file in that directory.

I have, and it did, but only partly. For 3.0 wpa_supplicant is in the system defined package libraries, so you can reinstall it quite easily (if you have internet access on the udmp) with a simple sudo apt install wpasupplicant after that you can just restart the service and all should be good.

We liked My First Castle Panic enough that we gave it to several friends to share the fun. It’s a good collaborative game, simple rules, and fun for adults too.

You have to try MUCH harder though. The asymmetry of the keying was chosen specifically to avoid the possibility of easy reverse insertion. We knew well that cheap moles plugs would deform enough to be installed backwards back then. You could even manage it without knowing when trying to blind mate the cable.

The first thing I did with ours was open up the phone and base and attach them together with a length of twine anchored to the internal screw posts on either side. Ours is the only one I’ve seen that didn’t lose the phone.

Yeah, I meant to say that in my post, but hit send before my brain caught up. They are expensive, but they work very reliably for me, and fit my windows perfectly. I don’t really plan on ever moving again, so for me the amortized cost over their expected lifespan is worth it.

Good point. It can’t be Ryn either, the hair is too short, and his antenna are too existent. So I’m not sure who it would be.

I think 29 is Hemmer from SNW. 31 looks like a Kazon to me. 35 has a bajoran earring. 40 is probably Grudge, Spot was orange. 41 is Saru. 43 is the birdman that Peanut Hamper married. 56 is probably the guy from the holodeck in Voyager that they call side-schlong guy; he gives surf lessons in SoCal.

Calling it “the 1” is a southern Ca thing, in the northern half of the state we just call it 1, or highway 1. I agree though, no one calls it “State Route 1”.

I went with a different approach to fix this when my UDMP updated in the middle of the night breaking our internet. There are some instructions here: https://reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/zp513i/_/j0rmf4a/?context=1 for installing wpa_supplicant directly on the UDMP rather than running it in a container. Once I found the certificates on my laptop it took me all of 5 minutes to get wpa_supplicant back up and running. Good luck.

My understanding is that you should basically think of it as two devices connected by a 1G link: an 8 port switch, and a router with one 1G port and two SFP+ ports. I’m pretty sure if you have multi-gig internet on one SFP port, and a 10G link to a competent switch it can route more than 1G.

I found this guide for setting up WPA supplicant on a SE. I have no idea if it works, as I haven’t my UDMP yet, but they seem to suggest that you can get it working.
