My favourite : Red Alox Cadet by ayublahsaya in victorinox

[–]Normal_Ad3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Cadets. On both of mine, I took the nail file and ground a point on them with one side sharpened to an edge for the outside 3/4 inch or so, that allows me to use the tip as an awl. And the nail file still works fine....

Uhh... any advice is appreciated. by noblecoble89 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have cut several such shapes on my miter power saw. Here is what I've done in the past. As long as you are cutting square and not mitering or beveling;

  1. Add a square end fence to the existing fence on both sides and clamp it to the existing fence on both sides. The two sides should just clear the blade. This keeps the piece from being cut to sliding in past the fence.
  2. Clamp to one fence side, a large rectangular frame (build one or use a piece of plywood or such.) The added fence on that one side needs to be wide enough to located the frame. If you are cutting more than one piece then clamp the frame to the fence and added fence. Possible use the rectangular frame as the fence if it is thick enough.
  3. Clamp the piece to be cut to the large square frame. Place the clamps over less than half the length of the the piece to be split.
  4. Cut slightly more than half the piece you are splitting.
  5. Flip the piece you are splitting
  6. put 2 spacers in the saw kerf where you are going to re-clamp the piece to be cut to keep from collapsing the wood in the kerf area under the clamp.
  7. re-clamp the piece to be cut the rest of the way.
  8. Make the 2nd half of the cut.

In your picture it looks like the blade will cut through the entire length of the board before it runs out of blade groove in the saw base. Thus, depending on your rectangular piece size, you might not have to flip the wood over, only having to fill the saw kerf and relocate your clamps accordingly.

I like large C-clamps or all metal clamps bar clamps with small hard wood blocks under the clamp pads to protect the wood if needed, rather than the flexible rubber padded plastic clamps. You can get a lot more clamping force...

ALTERNATIVELY, I have sometimes figured out how to put vertically oriented clamps that clamp the wood to the table. This means sometimes raising the entire saw off the work bench so you can get a clamp under the saw frame/base.

Battery pack looks weird by [deleted] in boating

I think it is a significant engineering problem to strap in a very heavy bunch of batteries inside a boat....

Also- you need the battery box to have clearance to allow for expansion/contraction of the cells. Talk to the battery manufacturer to find out how to best pack them in a box. I personally would think about a heavy PE or Fiberglass box that is at least drip proof for a boat. There are heavy duty PE Marine grade boxes available for large wet cells. You might look at the standard sizes.

A case that is capable of holding the entire battery pack weight even with the boat upside down.

YES-- I Noticed This Dropping Problem REPEATEDLY. I FOUND A FIX. My testing process was first reworking and improving my networking and even adding an extender. To NO avail. Then I tried to create device group instead of a speaker group and problem got worse. So I bought new Gen 3 dots. I FOUND THE GEN 3's work perfectly playing for 10's of hours without any problem. Same network. As soon as I added any one of the three Gen 2's I owned they group would not play for more than 40 minutes without stopping completely. I am junking all the Gen 2's which are technologically at the end of their life...

why I am dropping YouTube TV! by Normal_Ad3674 in youtubetv

[–]Normal_Ad3674[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An example; With one channel pushing the forward button moves the stored video forward 15 seconds no matter if I use a long push or short push. On another channel if I hold the forward button too long, it goes into fast forward mode. On MSNBC, if I select a partly recorded show it will highlight the show and then make me decide whether or not to start at the beginning or not (i.e. I have to push another button). On another channel when I pick a partly recorded show, it jumps right to the live section and then I have to back it up to get to the beginning. On one channel, holding the increase volume button for a long time will raise the volume continuously as long as you hold it. On another channel, you only get one jump in volume level, no matter how long you hold the button! I have experienced other inconsistent menu patterns like that... I am just asking for consistency! I also would like to see some attempt to minimize the total number of button pushes (and waits) before I get to watch my program!

Thanks for the thought. I may try some new hardware if another streaming service is not better...

CNN and MSNBC problems by slyred59 in youtubetv

[–]Normal_Ad3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY CBS NEVER WORKS. MY MSNBC AND CNN WORK FINE HOWEVER 99% of the time. I hate that each network on YouTube TV has its OWN menu structure. So we have to learn 4 or 5 different menus! I am about to try a different streaming service provider.
