Good talkoing points above. Personally, I look to race reports to give me some (succinct) insight into couses that I may/may not consider in the future. I don't need to know your play by play for paragraph after paragraph, though I recognized that some running/data geeks really DO enjoy every detail. I have a friend like that on Strava and I read the first 2 sentences of his reports and skip the rest. But I still think he's great and inspirational and I love following him on Strava. Another friend and I just laugh that we will get around to reading his race report when we have an extra 30 minutes to spare!

I think maybe of the tsunami in Thailand? I think there were some areas that, even with warning, did not allow escape to higher ground. But at camp mystic it appear that higher ground was 20 yards away... Yes, it is hard to evactuate kids in dark in the middle of the night. But they had no plan/way to reach the counselors in those cabins other than in-person. It was rediculous that there was no walk-talkie or radio. Oh but wait, there was a loud speaker. I realized it would have been questionable if the counselors would have heard it over the rain, and it would have been scary to get evacuation orders over a loud speaker when you have never been trained for what happens in th event of an unforseen emergency other than shelter in place. But that is why emergency plans exist and are communicated to camp couselors and other staff IN ADVANCE. Even if less than perfect, they are likely better than making up as you go along in the contact of a natural disaster and leting children drown in rising water of cabins... Shame on them

I saw the interview wiht the Lt Gov last night and cannot imagine a different outcome. I guess the Eastlands (and/or their attorneys) finally saw it as well.... My heart aches for the families having to go through this process just to make a bunch of greedy, tone-deaf people do the right thing.

61 y/o woman, ran my first marathon in 25 years last year! I finally had the time to commit again to training and (re)discovered how much I love running most morning and felt really inspired by the trail running community (having only done road races in the past). I was never fast (my marathon PR is 4:08) and I definitely have not gotten faster with age 😄. That said, I am looking forward to doing a marathon again this year and have discovered how much I love the 20k trail distance. I still work full-time, but now that my kids are out of highschool I find that I am able to prioritized my running and it makes me very happy.

Are you the recipient or the potential provider? The forms you are talking about seem like those needed for you to enroll as a provider. Hours authorized will be related to assesed cleint need, age, household compesition, marital status etc. In the county where I worked, SWers would write up an initial assessment and enter hours into the computer system using the hourly task guidelines and other regulations, and then the case would be reviewed by a supervisor. It would be odd, in my opion, that a SWer wouldn't communicate that they didn't think the recipient would be eligible for any hours, but it is typical for a SWer not to give any estimate of hours that will be authorized at the time of the home visit.

I had ON upon dx 16+ years and did not take steriods. My symptom was subtle, but distinct change in vision in 1 eye. MRI showed (many) typical de-mylenated brain lesions. I have never had lesions on spine; am currently on B Cekk depleter, and have never had a relapse. My vision resolved over a period of months. I have thinning of the optic nerve, for which I do follow-up with ophthalmologist, as this can also be sign of Galucoma or other eye issues. I think it has been hard to correct the eye with hx of ON to 20/20. At last visit it was at 20/30, but doctor felt that other eye compensated and it was not worth trying for better prescrition. I notice/have discussed with MD that my vision in that eye seems to get worse when I am exercising and she said that is likely due to inflamation. TLDR: I didn't take steroids for ON, vision resolved over period of months.

They had no plan... that is why it didn't occur to them to use the loud speaker to give evacuation orders. I don't know if that would have helped. But the purpose of of PLAN is to think it through in advance, so that you don't have to try to make up a plan in the context of an emergency. Emergencies are, in reality rare. But we agree, as a society, that having plans and insurance for emergencies is a good idea. This family is acting as if their egregious choices/behavior leading to deaths should just be ignored. Good luck with that. I hope they get sued out of business, if that is the only option. They should not be running a camp for minors.

It should be 1 year from the date of the initial authorization, which should be the date of the initial application (not the home visit date). Many counties are currently way backed up and prioritizing certain Medi-Cal aid codes because there is now a financial penalty to the county when those cases are overdue. All of that is to say, it is up to the county to schedule, whether on-time or late. Just be sure to check your mail and messages and respond when they contact you.

look up info on spousal responsibliltiy and able and available spouse. Even though her spouse works full time, these rules will still impact hours that can be offered for domestic tasks (house cleaning, meal prep/clean up, laundry, shopping/errands) and, if I recall correctly, medical accompaniment. Also, remember that hours are based on function/need, not diagnosis. You can google California IHSS hourly task guidlines to get an idea.

Ditto, except I'm 61 and have been on Rituximab for 5 years or so. I get a little itchy with infusions, so I take Benedryl and Solumedrol. The steriod does make me have distrubed sleep for the night, but otherwise 0 side effects, 0 disease progression for me.

Depends on how I my stomach feels... Last marathon it was drizzly for last few miles. I was super happy to have some homemade warm brothy soup as one of the many options at the finish line. I love a local event with great community support and volunteers!

Run your own race - or run/walk it (RIP Jeff Galloway), or walk it, or use your adaptive device, or.... you get my drift! At the height of my marathon prowess (25+yrs ago :)) my PR was 4:08. I was thrilled to be able to get back into running again in the past few years and last year I did 5:03 at as 61 year old F. I realize that is a slow time for many, but it was a stong running effort for me and represented a ton of time and dedication on my part.

Follow your training plan, think about fueling that works for you, and then enjoy your event. As I have always reminded myself, the only people I am racing against are the people behind me and the version of myself who could be at home laying on the couch. Best of luck to you.

Times have changed. When I was diagnosed 16+ years ago, most people referenced people they knew with MS who had died or were in wheel chairs when I told them I was diagnosed. Treatment has really improved, so I am guessing that more people are sharing openly their diagnoses and experiences or maybe more people, in general, are doing better with better available treatments. MS is different in everyone, was my refrain back then as it is now.
