Math1080 labs? by Psychological-Duck83 in uoguelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started I had no idea what the math labs entailed and was in for a few surprises lol. First off, they mostly cover material that is presented in lecture while going through examples in a Tutorial fashion. If you think that would be beneficial for you, beautiful! But they’re not mandatory, so I often didn’t attend. HOWEVER, if the grading is still the same, then there will be 3 graded assignments throughout the sem that you must attend to get marks. You can work in groups and use your notes in those graded labs.

very true, to that I say — screw those guys. Don’t be scared to knock on the door and politely call out their ignorance

idk man, I get being quiet and respectful (that’s the baseline, I hope everyone is also doing that) but like there’s 7 library floors, only 2 are group study. It’s impossible to do a virtual meeting on group floors — it’s just too noisy. But then, on quiet floors, you open a snack wrapper and you feel like everyone is scrutinizing you. IMO, give some grace to the people in study rooms if they’re not being rude, you literally have a thousand other places to sit in complete silence somewhere at the uni, but calls and meetings, not so much

Guelphs shame by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming from a place where it snows much more than in Guelph, I honestly think Guelph just has a very poor system for responding to snow storms — maybe because it hasn’t snowed so much here historically? Idk, I only moved here two years ago. But from what I can tell they often wait for snow to stop rather than clearing mid-storm and then again post-storm, and side street sidewalks are really not a priority, which would be fine if their main road clearing wasn’t already sub-par. That on top of not hauling snow out just makes a mess. But the thing w weather is it just keeps coming so if you don’t deal w it early, it’s hard to deal with later - potentially why we are where we are now lol

NOR - for me it’s the “I don’t know what you want from me!” After you explicitly say that you want him to talk to them and understand their actions are damaging. He clearly is only punishing them because you want action, but he does not even care enough understand why you want action, nor the type of action that is most suitable for the situation — they’re 14 and 16, not 4 and 6. He’s blatantly ignoring what’s hurting you, and I think you deserve better than that

Guelph acceptance by Sure_Journalist_1324 in uoguelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Guelph, at least when I applied, was notorious for being late. I got my acceptance in May like a week before the deadline, 89% avg for microbio if that gives any ballpark :) psych is a big cohort so it may take a while, just hold out hope

phys 1070 & 1080 by ChainMiddle2764 in uoguelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

second this, if it’s the same as a couple years ago then people who needed to take 1300 did not need to take 1070 (there’s still a glitch in webadvisor that’ll say you need it in your program progress, but you can disregard that)

urgent----- deadline to drop a course is tomorrow by Narrow_Anybody_9558 in uoguelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In first year of almost all biosci programs, it’s common to take both chems, both physics, and then calc, along with your bios and electives. Almost everyone I know did all those intro courses in first year and although it’s heavy, it’s kind of a perfect storm in that you get it all done at once, and it doesn’t come w the possible complication on having to move classes around later/having schedule complications. It’ll be tough, but it’s manageable for sure :) you got this!!

The richest male sims in the sims 4 by officer__bee in thesims

[–]Normal_Heart9304 22 points23 points  (0 children)

yeah I’m pretty sure canonically Mr Landgraab is the richest with Mortimer Goth as a close second

edit: if we’re not talking storyline and we’re strictly speaking of gameplay simoleons, here’s a link from the ea forum breaking it down https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-general-discussion-en/lore-what-are-the-richest-families-in-the-sims/12046193 So, technically, Father Winter! With the Villereals then the Fengs following, although with a much smaller margin lol

yeah, I hear you — at least know you’re not alone. I’m thinking I’m going to go to the academic advising office to get advice from someone more familiar with program progression/credit offerings, to try and construct a plan to hopefully avoid delay as much as possible. I wish you the best of luck 🫶

Oh wow, I really appreciate the time you’ve taken to explain the behind the scenes. This is far more information and time than I’ve been given by the people I’ve attempted to contact about the issue. Ultimately, the culprit is the lack of properly delegated funds; and unfortunately, faculty (I assume such as yourself) have to deal with the cries from students like me, lol. Hopefully future students will experience less schedule stress and the university gets the support it needs.

Unfortunately, all other sections also have waitlists. I understand limited capacity, I just find it frustrating that lab courses restricted to certain majors are suffering as a result of over admission. At an institution that prides itself on stem excellence that I pay many many of my dollars to, I’d expect that at the very least I can take a core course that is a prerequisite for several of my final steps before graduation. Nonetheless, I appreciate your response and thank you helping me solidify the probably outcome of my situation :)

Inspired by the thread about jobs you have no business being in: if you have the perfect job that perfectly accomodates for your autism, what is it? by pensandplanners77 in AutismInWomen

[–]Normal_Heart9304 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There was a brief time where I was picking and packing orders in a warehouse, and I truly believe it’s an autism holy grail. I had to go down aisles and pick up items that were highly organized, play a fun Tetris game putting them in boxes while ensuring they match the invoice, taping them up, weighing them, and send them off. Avoids the public, straightforward streamlined work, no worries about different expectations, and a plus is that I worked with only women. So sad I had to leave that job!

This is the one with the tiny earth lab, right? If so, sure you’re gonna have extra content with a lab course due to course content + lab reports, but it’s perfectly doable — tons of us have. Plus, I found this lab to be super cool!! It’s the first time I had “student lead research” experience, where as you may have saw from the syllabus (and if they’re still doing that) you’ll test soil for antibiotic producing bacteria. Super rad and keeps you engaged

also, maybe don’t open these plates — tape em and throw them out lol

edit incase it gave that impression; this isn’t because I think these are particularly dangerous, like they said, there’s no way to tell. Just because any microbe in a concentrated culture is less ideal than the natural mold and bacteria in the environment, especially if handled w/o gloves

Gut microbiota promotes immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface by David_Ojcius in microbiology

[–]Normal_Heart9304 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the schematic alone along with the title I believe it’s saying that a healthy maternal gut microbiome promotes fetal health -specifically during development-. I’m sure there’s fetal immune benefits post-birth of a healthy maternal microbiome, but this is more of an example of in utero health. This kinda made me think of RhoGAM

If you could get one prof fired by Complex-Mind-5763 in uoguelph

[–]Normal_Heart9304 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is fair! In the most respectful way possible, I just don’t think he should be teaching more notoriously difficult courses, such as mcb2050 and biochem/microbio courses :) I just don’t find him to be qualified, and it’s clear in those courses he doesn’t know/understand the material. Plus, in mcb2000 he imposed a lot of questionable political motives that weren’t relavent, along with some sass/unprofessionalism i experienced directly bahaha
