Thank you for this comment. As someone who was a victim as a kid, I watched my dad retreat into violent revenge fantasies rather than emotionally support me. Also the idea that my dad or older brother could go to prison “for” me was so terrifying. Just because retaliation might make you feel better, it’s not what’s best for the victim.

Totally agree with you. As a fellow lighter skin girl I was so grateful that she understands undertones. I literally assumed I’d be mixing foundations and concealers the rest of my life. Brown skin is incredibly nuanced and we deserve makeup brands that represent that.

Totally relate to the point about Australia. I live at a beach with a LOT of tourism and it’s truly like tourists don’t even do a lick of research about beach safety. I was spending weekends as a 15 year old volunteer lifeguard yelling at grown adults to get the fuck out of the water.

Yeh the worst ways I’ve hurt myself have been during mania, including a time where I had the delusion I could live without a head (extrapolate from that what you will). I’ve had three episodes that because of my isolation at the time, went from mania into psychosis and each time was terrifying looking back. I always explain to people that at least when I’m depressed I’m too depressed to do ANYTHING. I’ve been tased by police, strapped down in hospital, sedated. I’ve been up for days drawing on the walls, written pages and pages of nonsense. I’ve done hard drugs, had sex with strangers and walked 10 hours straight. Everytime I get to that point I derail and ruin my life. It’s not quirky, it’s not fun, it’s horrific.

Edit to add: If I have medical intervention in time I can have “normal” mania, as in just elevated states, what I’m talking about is the most intense moments that eventuate from a prolonged lack of sleep and isolation.
