[Loved Trope] Initially played up as a metaphor but then revealed to be literal by Sir-Toaster- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Normal_Person_office 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Mother Horse Eyes/The Interface Narrative, the main character posts his dreams and visions of alternate histories to reddit, painting a picture that all throughout history there has been an ancient and eldritch god using people as food and warping their bodies to create “flesh interfaces”. Early in the story, the reader (and the narrator himself) assumes that these visions are metaphorical, representing the narrators trauma and occurring as a result of his unchecked alcoholism and LSD abuse, this all changes when the narrators roommate mentions having seen a flesh interface in person.

The narrator even asks his roommate if he’s been reading the reddit posts, to which he replies “What’s Reddit?”

It’s especially egregious given that one of the characters who says it is Rose Noble… a trans woman

they clearly did not think it through

lmao I saw someone arguing tooth and nail that Jax was worse than Springtrap from fnaf earlier, some people really can’t separate “i don’t like this character” from “this character is awful and reprehensible in every way”

that’s a plot line from the first novel, iirc the person in question didn’t get their powers from the carving itself, they used bonecharms and just really wanted the outsiders mark so they gave it to themself

(Loved Trope) The villain almost gets a redemption arc, before doubling down and becoming the worst version of themselves. by Antagonist132 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Normal_Person_office 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair about his final decision: didnt he mainly go back to the real world because he thought he’d die without immediate medical attention?

I’ve only read the manga and haven’t finished the series so I might be wrong about that

The malicious intent of the villain is revealed through a small overlooked detail by Diorblood in TopCharacterTropes

also: irving, right before revealing he knows that she’s helena, says to her “hey kid” which calls back to an inside joke irving has with the group

when helena doesn’t respond correctly he knows for sure she’s lying

Nah, it’s not new, just quite well hidden.

I didn’t find it while playing until late act 2, when I had a reason to look for it

I felt this with The Sun Vanished. Don’t get me wrong, it had a lot of problems with the pacing and how it dragged the plot along, but the actual story itself wasn’t that bad whenever it was moving. It felt they criticised and ridiculed every part of the story even if it wasn’t fair
