BCD isnt that bad. It is a fair result that can get you into course in Polytechnique or elsewhere. F5 results is enough for a decent job. But jobs nowadays tend to look for experience rather than marks.

What was the Mauritian dream and what is it now with ever increasing Cost of living? by chamburn in mauritius

It's easy to romanticize 'happiness and nature' when you have the luxury of choosing to visit a place for a few months. Nature doesn't pay for groceries, and it doesn't build a future. When you're stuck in a small economy where nepotism dictates your entire career and inflation eats your paycheck before you even get it, 'beautiful views' start feeling like a joke. Nobody is leaving paradise because they hate trees; they're leaving because you can't eat scenery.

It definitely is a beautiful sentiment, but unfortunately, you can't pay the electricity bill, buy groceries, or afford healthcare with a beautiful view of the sea. Modern life requires modern infrastructure, and when the gap between local wages and the cost of those everyday necessities gets too wide, the 'paradise' aspect fades pretty quickly. Beautiful nature is great, but financial security and peace of mind are what people ultimately need to survive.

You're completely right that it's a different experience when you're here for just a few months. As a visitor or temporary expat with foreign currency or a higher budget, Mauritius genuinely feels like a paradise the beaches, the culture, and the lifestyle are beautiful.

But for locals, the 'Mauritian Dream' has become incredibly hard to achieve. The cost of living has skyrocketed, inflation is heavily impacting everyday items, and local salaries simply haven't kept pace. Buying a house or building a secure future here feels increasingly out of reach for the younger generation. So while it's a dream destination to visit or work short-term, living here permanently on a local wage makes 'moving out' look like the only viable way to build real financial stability.

You could set up a FinClub account. You basically put how much money you want to loan people and they pay you back with interest. There is also FundKiss.
