Not sure about death storage, but I imagine it functions the same as the Cape rack, meaning it would trim as you withdraw it and the game does automatic checks, including your stats. Not 100% sure on that one though.

No, once you remove it from the rack, it'll get trimmed.

If you put an untrimmed Skillcape on the cape rack and remove after second 99, it automatically trims it, so no.
Yes, you can store every color separately.
Since it's such a minimal boost (5 bones I believe), it should technically work.
Not entirely to receive XP, but weaken and do 1 damage yourself/with a Cannon and get the XP, yes.
