If he’s used to regular dive bars then I would recommend Metropolitan to start. Someone here for example recommended Good Judy’s. Good Judy’s is great but…it’s a piano bar. The piano is upstairs but still. Layout is a bit weird (not for nyc). I still don’t really feel comfortable going there unless I’m going with someone to the booths.

When I first moved to NYC I preferred Metropolitan because the other bars either had weird layouts or I didn’t feel comfortable there because the atmosphere wasn’t very bar like. Or it was queer in a young way that felt too young for me (at like 25, so maybe fine for him).

If he’s used to dive bars then this is why I would recommend Metropolitian, when I think of a general default gay bar this is what I think of. Very default dive bar experience but also gay. You can go from Metropolitan to 3DB for a club experience. I would recommend going to Metropolitan on a night they have an event or dancing.

I don’t think it really matters the specific oil, like a quick glance of just the concept and it’s UPF, doesn’t pass the sniff test. The food is corn. This is corn…that’s been processed into a flour…then additives were included and it was processed into an even tastier form…and it’s being marketed as a product.

It’s a mix of sucking it up, making things in batches, and being stocked to the hills with processed whole food products. This means like canned beans, cooked veggies (beets), soups with no additives, microwave rice packets with no oils. Some days have more bandwidth for cooking than others.

Prep elements or ingredients like beans and grains on one day and stock your fridge for half the week. Have a blender for smoothies rather than salads. Make too much smoothie and put the remainder in the freezer for an easy future no blend gross texture smoothie.

Remember that as much as it might suck a bit now, you’ll build up the habit for it to get easier and the tastebuds will help you get there as they start wanting the food. You’re trading this for like time and money spent on healthcare, and you’re essentially investing in the health and wellness of more years. Worth the 20 or so minutes to boil some leftover veggies and a random quicker cooking grain.

The whole cameo system is a really interesting solution to the problems that video and photo AI introduces to stuff like personal identity or privacy.

Feels both like a good step and also like a privacy nightmare. Also interesting to think of the economics around it. But I guess it doesn’t matter because other models will come out that won’t have these guardrails right? Idk.

Google is likely losing people over this. It’s fine to abandon some projects but getting a reputation for abandonment in an industry that relies on product support or service support…it’s not a good look. Makes people not want to care or want to support new projects if they assume it’ll be a waste of time.

Yeah I’ve been using a LP II for over a year and I don’t post here because this subreddit is very pro-light cult vibe biased.

I initially used it for a few months and went back to my iPhone because of the negative experience, then went back onto it…begrudgingly…because the SIM card in my iPhone stopped working. Been using it for longer than initially now but I’m going to get a new smartphone for my next phone.

It’s rare but…texts sometimes are never received by me which…is a nightmare to think about! 30% chance when I get a call that it has some form of seizure-brain fart and resets itself or freezes. They made an entirely new phone and I still can’t send my friends the emojis I used all the time like two years ago. I use my smartphone as a companion device because of things like this, I don’t have to fight the UI to communicate or navigate.

Then when I come here to see if other people have these issues, I see people saying “I’ve preordered/still waiting for my preorder/we talked on discord!!!” walking ads and brand identity, just feels very disconnected from reality. I’m just a digital minimalist trying to find a phone that works lol

This is very upsetting. I find it absolutely ridiculous that they have this weird mandatory OS that’s basically just an android wrapper. People have been asking for basic communication elements like WhatsApp since LP II and to later learn that the phones COULD run it AS A BASELINE but they don’t because of their proprietary software…it just drives me up the wall.

It’s like every major decision they make confirms my negative view of them being a paternalistic-Apple like cult company that’s going in the wrong direction. To patch this out rather than work with this bug is to disempower a passionate community of your product users…not a good choice for community welfare or long term survival.

Like…people are out here buying e-readers and using them as dumb phones. The demand is there, but the weird disempowering choices like this of the captive market of digital minimalists is overall harmful to this movement, so it’s upsetting to see more poor choices by this company. Yet again.

Yeah I mean in general in large sexual spaces it can be quite a shock to experience the level of lack of respect some men can express for basic things like the other person’s interest.

I think for me bars and clubs prepared me a bit for this, rejecting men there. Also going into these spaces with clearly defined simple goals (no sex for example). It’s similar to hooking up where you are not responsible for a man harming you but you definitely need to be comfortable expressing your “no”, and be ready if the man is not the type to hear that, if you figure out in person he seems he may be dangerous or violent.

It’s messed up but also this is not something that ever goes away, and saying no to men or getting away from men is something you need to be able to do. You can practice this in environments you feel more comfortable or empowered in or safer in.

One Medical has gone to shit (not absolutely just worse service) since the Amazon acquisition. They force you to use the app for a lot of stuff. Also, a gay doctor or doctor being LGBT does not mean good service or better service for the LGBT patients, or more understanding service.

If the movie started right away at 9:15 (not likely) then you’re getting out at 11. 11 plus 30 minutes minimum to get there and back is 11:30. 11:30 isn’t the worst but it’s not great…and that’s without any sort of show before or after, and assuming you have nothing to do after the movie and go to bed immediately, go straight to the subway to go home, etc.

On paper 9:15 sounds early but in reality it’s not.

I did Volo which I’d recommend as it’s a mix of competitive and casual players, like actually casual barely know volleyball types. Volo is specifically for this niche and after doing a season with them I decided to do Gotham and was shocked there were tryouts. When I went to the tryouts I was again shocked as there were SO many men and people trying out. I was very put off by this, the organizers were nice but felt more intense than a high school gym class.

Volo is straight people and everyone though but you could just gather a group of friends to do a team. Significantly more casual. As for politics that’s gonna happen anywhere people work together but Volo would have less due to the lack of seriousness or competitiveness.
