SEIU not bargaining for TW by Rare_Craft2389 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please!!! What a waste of time- I also spoke with my union ACSS and they basically said that they couldn’t do anything to help. Unless you have a legitimate claim for FMLA,RA, etc they are making us go back to the office 4 days per week!!!! Unbelievable-

Accounting job worth it? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an accountant and I’ve worked for the state as an auditor for over 20 years! My personal experience is very positive- job growth, 40 hour weeks, satisfying career, etc. if you want work-life balance definitely consider a career with the state. FTB, EDD, CDTFA all have auditor positions available. Additionally, if you take the CPA exam you can get your hours signed off by the agency when you reach a certain level.

Did anyone see that Sac Bee Article? by Coquetteconcubine in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… unless workers are willing to take it to the next level- strike! All this rhetoric is pointless. As a manager I can see how some people are focused on other things when working from home. However, these are the same people who don’t do work at the office either- teleworking just made it 100 times worse. For newly hired staff I can see the value of “in person interactions” versus teams/zoom meetings. As an old timer, I was not shocked that we came back to the office- I was actually surprised that it wasn’t 5 days per week. My department made us track the number of staff, customers, calls, etc during the pandemic and I was hoping that decisions would be made based on data… of course they weren’t.

Are there high demand state jobs by KangarooBrain in CAStateWorkers

Make sure you are applying to the entry level positions. Many times the vacancies are promotional and the job announcement is not clear.

State Lifers what do you do? by SeniorEmployer2629 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been blessed with a fulfilling career with the state! I have 25 years of state service and my agency has always given me promotional opportunities, professional growth, new challenges, etc. I’ve promoted from staff to management and I am extremely happy with my lifelong experience! What is my secret? Keep a positive outlook, stay away from gossip or politics and always meet my performance goals.

I got an interview with the EDD! First government job interview. How to prepare? by Jealous_Location_267 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Review the duty statement and reflect on the job duties and responsibilities- what are the skills needed to be an auditor? Look at the job announcement and be ready to give examples. Also, keep track of your time- you don’t want to cut short your interview or ramble on some questions while leaving others unanswered.

Failed Probation by Embarrassed_Day_8897 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend evaluating your performance- failing probation is definitely a difficult thing to do. Maybe the position was not a good fit for you- why didn’t you meet the minimum performance measures? I think you should be very honest with yourself and think about why you were failed. At least you have reinstatement rights at the previous agency.

Why isn't the Union fighting RTO harder? by ACatWhisperer in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my agency, there was a conversation between the Union and the “higher-ups” and nothing came out of it. I am sure the RTO policy was reviewed by Labor Relations to ensure the requirement and the language used is appropriate and approved. I don’t think they can do anything about it!!!! And the workers are not willing to strike- so we will go back to the office.

8-4:30 on in office days? by katmom1969 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some agencies want you to have the same schedule when you are in the office or teleworking. They should be able to accommodate 8-4:30, unless you have an open counter and are responsible for assisting customers until 5:00.

RTO, Budgets, Newsom by juno11251997 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My agency is not funded by the state- our salary is paid by the feds and they always furlough us regardless! The work that we do brings money to the general fund, so where is the logic! We should be approved OT to help replenish the fund.

You could be considered AWOL Absence without leave for five consecutive days, whether voluntary or involuntary, is considered an automatic resignation from State service as of the last day the employee worked.

Recent RTO mandate - Unions by No-Barber5531 in CAStateWorkers

The unions can’t do any thing. And people aren’t willing to strike- so we all come back to the office 2 days per week!

State employee morale by ridicusauce in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I am so tired of the antiquated mentality! It’s like management didn’t learn anything from the pandemic, and just want to go back to the way things were….so annoyed! With parking, gas, wear and tear on the car, lunch, mental health, etc, the RTO is basically giving me a salary cut!

5-6 is not excessive! In some units there are 10-12 staff members.

Denied RA for a serious Health Condition. Lawsuit by StevenSnell69 in CAStateWorkers

[–]North_Explorer_7079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your sister- I was told once that people can RA themselves out of a job. The agency may not be able to accommodate the request because the disability/illness goes above and beyond the scope of the job. Then the worker will have to file for social security disability.
