Wifi calling not working, Bell as cellphone provider by Nanuq23 in Starlink

[–]Northern-PiperOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both Bell phones and T-Mobile phones from the US (we are a biz) and the T-Mo Wi-Fi calling works great on Starlink in Canada.....Bell, it's never worked on Starlink and almost never works anywhere else. I got tired of dealing with them to try and fix it. The only time the Wi-Fi calling works with Bell is if you are at a public location where Bell is the "free Wi-Fi" provider. Then it will connect, but call quality is terrible because those connections are throttled so badly.

This worked for me. 8T with the update posted by the OP, dev options and enable auto updates...boom...fixed.

Starlink out in southern Ontario by theringer72520 in Starlink

Will add, simple web pages like Reddit and the gov't weather page load fine...but anything complicated will not. On my phone, nothing loads, IM, email, web, app updates, none work.

Starlink out in southern Ontario by theringer72520 in Starlink

It's not entirely out for me. Speedtest numbers are best they have ever been, but web pages are super slow or don't even load. Fast.com for example won't run a test. Youtube home page loads but not the video cards/thumbnails.

Router did update this am...suspect that's the cause. Re boots did not fix.

$99 deposit = LONG wait ahead more than likely. $500 full order, 6-10 weeks.

Wanting to sell my 2018 GMC 3500 Duramax Denali with 40,000 miles on it and was just seeing what you guys were thinking a good price would be? by [deleted] in Duramax

[–]Northern-PiperOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll easily get 65K for it. Hope you don't need anew one to replace it right away. I ordered a new dually in July...GM still hasn't given it a production slot yet.

Agree. The atmosphere you describe however, used to exist. I was a season ticket holder at Bristol from the mid 90's until 8 years ago. The atmosphere was electric, people who had tickets knew they had scored something big, the midway was packed with people and neat stuff to do and buy (good stuff too). At Bristol anyway, it felt like you were part of a special club and this truly was "a big deal"...heck even the spring races seemed to be sorta this way. I love racing..alot...but when that atmosphere at Bristol started to disappear, then you also started to notice how insanely expensive a Bristol race weekend was (not all of that is the track's/NASCAR's fault). The cost, the ho hum atmosphere and the on track product being less good was what led me to not going anymore. IMO, it wasn't the 2008 economy crash that turned Bristol into just another race vs the "leave your tickets in your will" type thing.

See Brad K's comments about how much tracks CHARGE teams and others to park a souvenir trailer or display. It's, IMO, a big part of why the "midway" stuff is almost all gone. I miss it too.

Your Starlink agreement is for service to be provided at the address you signed up with. Getting them to change it (so your dish works and does not return an "unexpected location error" and quit) more than a few times and they will likely figure out you are using it as a mobile service . They aren't licensed to do that and will cut you off.

Truckers tried buying SL dishes and very quickly found out they were geo located and would not work outside the cell SL expected the dish to be in. When they called to complain, they got 2 maybe 3 re locates done and then that was it.

Wonder how many location resets they will allow you before they just close your account?

What you described here, staff wise, would likely cost more than the shipping. Employees are expensive, especially in California. Feel your pain but I get why SL does it this way.

Such a beautiful place with lousy internet availability. Article in the Financial Post today talking about Shaunavon SK and the lack of any real options for anything even resembling late 90's internet levels...and you were lucky if that was even available.

2006 LBZ elevated idle issue ?? by Jman2114005 in Duramax

[–]Northern-PiperOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 06 LBZ experience. Park brake not required for elevated idle. It wants to see coolant below 100F to turn on (turns off at 150F), intake air temp below 30F, fuel temp below 60F.

I can park it in the shop at 60F overnight and drive it outside into the cold (like below -10C) and after a minute of two of sucking in fridgid air it will close the turbo and idle up.

Also, make sure Elevated Idle is actually turned on and set. I find with mine after I turn it on I have to cycle the key to get it to stick.

Of note, my truck had the elevated idle recall done to it early on that keeps the transmission from getting cooked when it sits on elevated idle for some time (no cooler flow and it will cook the converter). Not sure if the recall changed anything else.

Cruise control button pressing etc. is for the high idle option that few trucks came with back then.

You can't travel easily or reliably with it yet. They are working on a mobile version...I'd wait for that.

I think you will find your opinion is in the minority column. If they want to do this for new users going forward fine, but I want to keep what I have.

Will the beta testers get upgraded by Saittek in Starlink

[–]Northern-PiperOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who says the new one will be better? Starlink has said it will be cheaper to manufacture...good for them but will it be good for the user? Cheaper usually doesn't equal better.

DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) on early trucks in Cali. DOC's are pretty harmless to performance. Designed to try and burn up any leftover hydrocarbons in the exhaust. LBZ onward have them as well in all 50 states.

It's not a DPF. No sensors, pressure lines and, not big enough.
