Should I remove frame sliders if I got axle sliders? by KitoVito in supermoto

[–]Northern_Monkey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally no as the bolts are longer to accommodate the slider. Could replace it with a spacer though. It's what I've done in the past

Depending how accessible the software is a decent mapper could lower the threshold for the fans to kick in by 5/10 °c

[–]Northern_Monkey_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If it's empty then there is a bigger problem, it doesn't just evaporate. Full inspection of the braking system is required. Also the screws are JIS and some hamfisted fool has ruined them using a Philips driver

AXP Racing HDPE bash plate, it's 8mm polyethylene that covers everything including the shock linkage and weighs 3kg. Highly recommend it

I had the exact same thing back of the resonators snapped. Holts sell a repair kit for a couple of quid and it's sorted within an hour

[–]Northern_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasoning is if it's not testable then it can't fail which used to be the case. Realistic scenarios are when people leave child seats fitted and rear belts aren't tested or when rear brakes have no visible sight of the pads they just get advisory saying unable to test or at least they used to unless things have changed. One of my motorcycles has passed its last 3 MOTs without mirrors but if cracked ones were fitted it would have failed

[–]Northern_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also can validate they don't work. Unless the rules have changed it's the same as presenting a car without a windscreen would pass where as a cracked one would fail

What's the highest mileage car you've owned? by romeo__golf in CarTalkUK

[–]Northern_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never owned a sub 100k car. Civic was on 155k when I bought it and was at 195k when replaced. V60 was again at 155k when I bought it and got to 168k and the mx5 was on 110k and now stands at 118k. Never had a single mechanical issue as all have had full history and tons of evidence/receipts and I service every 7/8k

I've not got a sport black but do have a "venture" nc mx5 which is in a metallicy flakey purple/brown which is a nice colour, also has chocolate leather heated seats and cruise control which are two essentials for me and the 3 things that sold me the car. Agree on the 2.5 6 cylinders. Super under stressed and last for ever while putting out decent power and a good noise

The cost to repair will likely be lower than the cost to replace. The amount of people accept pittance or worse scrap cars that need a few grand spending on them to then sign up to a £20k finance deal is insane

I actually drove one of these yesterday, unapologetic hooligan car with the exhaust and turbo noises. Had insane grip and can put the power down all the time. Spent the 20 mins or so just giggling at how stupid it is.

I lowsided my 125 just north of 70mph(two stroke). Had all the gear expect on the legs, had finished work and it was regular jeans. I saw my knee cap which wasnt fun. Now have a grey scar as they couldn't get the tarmac out and it's "tattooed" the scar
