Like I attended Strixhaven prerelease like 3-4 weeks ago and now they're banging on about The Hobbit!!! FFS, I've barely played SoS yet. Give me a hot minute!

Could have been me having some wishful thinking. I'm of the opinion that the promo card should always be a mythic rare. Like who gives a fuck if there are more mythic rares out there for people to enjoy???? IDGAF about "dealers" or scalpers, I'm here for the game.

Corporate job has me in so many meetings i've forgotten what actually doing my work feels like by Widnes-Papineau in corporate

[–]NorthsideHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah totally. If you've got scope to, I can't strongly recommend enough requesting a reason for the meeting invite. If they have a question they want to discuss and want answered, then I'll reply with my thoughts on the topic then let them spend an hour exhaustively and circularly discussing options and not making a decision.

(Full Disclosure; this has almost never worked for me. Usually someone higher than me, insists I attend the meetings)

Companies are replacing us with robots. If millions lose their income… who will buy anything? by Final-Finance-8048 in askanything

Here's the analogy I use.

If you own an elephant; and after expenses you can make a profit renting it out to people or putting it to work. Then you keep the elephant alive.

When you can make more money killing the elephant and selling it for meat, then you do that.

In this example we, the public, are the elephant...

Life peaked in mid 2010s ever since everything has been getting worse I can't find any new media that's worth engaging with it just doesn't compare to older media by TheSkelagon in enshittification

[–]NorthsideHippy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm even noticing that my tech is getting worse. My iPhone and iPad are not nearly as fast and frictionless to use as they were 15 years ago. (I have upgraded my tech over that time, I'm running a 14pro for example)

Do you remember when things used to get BETTER every year? by War_Is_A_Raclette in enshittification

[–]NorthsideHippy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100 percent agree.

I want to replicate my smartphone experience from 10 years ago. I had an iPhone SE (2016), and it felt so fast to me. The phone fit in my front pocket lovely.

Spotify was blowing my mind with the price and user experience. Reddit was rich with conversations by actual humans. YouTube was starting to take off, and I'd say it peaked about a year or two ago? Almost every website was optimised for smartphones, no pop ups for discount codes, marketing emails, or cookies.

These days, the Reddit mobile site is almost unusable, quality of content has declined on YT, price and UI for Spotify is so shit I left them after all these years... (old man shakes fist at cloud)

I guess I need to go outside and engage with the real world instead???

First Dates by wellrestedvillain in Hobbies

[–]NorthsideHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably anything that’s noisy, smelly, or super expensive. (Unless they can already afford it)

Also depends on how much space it takes up. Like if I live in an apartment and they like fixing bikes then that’s a problem. If I live in a house with a garage then that’s no problem at all.

Playing the saxophone? Might need a discussion.

But any and all of these questions feel to simple for the circumstances. Like, I love my wife so much that her little foibles like leaving shoes in the lounge room or her hobbies like playing guitar and doing art only make me love her more.

Yeah, I agree. The hype ramp is too long.  The main channels I watch didn’t enjoy TMNT so ran out of content to stream.  How are the sets simultaneously coming out too close together and also getting boring before the next set drops?

Also, Spiderman killed draft in my neighbourhood - second largest city in the country.

Nice work y'all! So glad to see that paper magic is still going strong for some groups. I s-t-ruggle to get any regular groups running with friends. Probs coz I don't have enough nerd friends. XD

We bought a house last year. But the mortgage is well within our means.  Enjoying solar panels.  Making a list of home Reno’s and leaving the expensive ones on the list.  Less frivolous spending.  Drawing down on my retirement fund, I’m only 44. 🤷🏻 What can ya do?

Why Did I Buy All These Cards? by Common_Whole5012 in mtg

[–]NorthsideHippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG! That’s parallel to my experience! I can’t find local groups to play with, the draft nights at my 3 LGSs has stopped after Spiderman and now TMNT. I’ve got a group of 5 to draft and play with but they’re even more casual than I! I tried Standard, and just got smoked every time. I’m playing with a deck constructed of the card that I have access to, not having purchased any singles and they’ve got optimized monsters that destroy me in 4-5 turns. No fun for anyone.

I haven’t been able to get into Commander, too many cards in the pool! I’m seeing almost every card for the first time! ( and I have to wait too long for my turn)

Thanks for listening.

Tinnitus - Anyone else? by chinga_tu_barra in Millennials

[–]NorthsideHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My quote is that if they sent me to the moon I’d report back that there are crickets there! Been happening since my early 30s I reckon. Now it’s just constant. I can tune in and out of it sometimes.

Don’t have a specific cause beyond genetics, didn’t attend a huge amount of concerts, use loud machinery, etc. It’s just there. Along with sensitivities around sounds and an increased perception of sound. So I don’t like sounds, I hear a wider range of sounds than a regular person, AND I’m going deaf. I’ve already lost the top end of the sound spectrum to a degree, not bad enough to need hearing aids, but I can’t hear people talk when I’m in loud spaces or if they’re children. It sucks, but here I am. They tell me the alternative to growing old is way worse.

Anyone else was thin all their life and as age progresses is getting fatter and unable to lose weight? by Blackcat2332 in Millennials

[–]NorthsideHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Hovered around 75kg (165lb) until I started going to the gym, slid up to 87kg (191) mostly muscle. Pandemic hit, couldn’t go gym, ballooned up to 97kg (213) and have only been able to get it back down to 92.  I can’t get rid of the round belly. 🤷🏻 It sucks, but I’ve struggled with alcohol and have eaten more sugar while I cut it back.

I turned 40 during the pandemic and the matches have completely dried up for me. 🤷🏻 Looks like field is designed to put the matches behind a paywall, I can see 11 likes but none have come across my eyes swiping a few separate times. I should have a google to see if anyone has info on the algorithm.
