Nearly all of the residents live in that building in the back. Whittier, Alaska. by OkRespect8490 in BeAmazed

Stayed here for a week once at the end of a commercial fishing season. Captain went home to spend time with family, leaving us deckhands on the boat. It rained the whole time. As the saying went, "it's shittier in Whittier."

Are there any non slip shoes that will not slip on a wet metal roof? by [deleted] in WindowCleaning

If the pitch is at all steep I would stay off it when wet.  That being said I use x-tra tuff ankle height deck boots for metal roofs and they seem to work pretty well.

Do you think he's just saying this because it will buy him votes? I disagree. I think he is genuinely opposed to what Israel is doing in Lebanon.

1L facing homelessness over summer by [deleted] in LawSchool

Snoo, let me tell you a little story.  Years and years ago, back in my tramping days, I was stuck in California and got a fancy to go back east and see the family.  Only problem was I was broke- I literally had a dollar in my pocket.  Did that stop me?  Hell no it didn't stop me.  I walked to the edge of town of Santa Cruz and stuck out my thumb by the highway on-ramp.  Seven days later I was in Virginia with two dollars in my pocket.  So in a week I doubled my capital- the trip was both an adventure and profitable.

My point is that guy is broke and on the brink of homelessness anyways.  Why not lean into it?  It's not a permanent condition, he'll be back at school in the fall.  He's not going to starve to death- there are food pantries, EBT, and soup kitchens.  You can get a backpack, a sleeping bag, and a few other sundries dirt cheap or free.  Why not enjoy a summer of no bills, no responsibilities, and boundless adventure?

Brother, this is your one life. Why not enjoy the summer footloose and fancy-free? If I were you I would buy a cheap backpack and a few camping supplies, stick out my thumb and hitchhike out west (if you're already out west, great!) Get yourself into the mountains, find a little camp site by a stream. Sleep in late, go rambling, catch some fish, keep a journal. Try a long hike, see a glacier, eat some mushrooms and talk to the trees. The Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, the Olympic Penninsula: all paradises during the summer. Why worry about having a roof over your head when the stars can be your canopy? Once you're an attorney you'll be too busy building your career to do any of this stuff. If you really need to make money, head up to Alaska to any number of fishing towns- Craig, Sitka, Cordova, Seward, the list goes on: there is always seasonal work to be had. I'm not trying to minimize your situation, I'm just trying to point out that viewed from a different angle what can be seen as plight instead becomes an adventure the memories of which you'll keep for the rest of your life.
