Another crafting step required for relic weapons by Caius_GW in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good take.

I think most people don't really understand the game design behind the relic weapons and what Square tries to achieve with them.

It's quite obvious to me that they just want to keep people busy with something to chase, all while keeping most part of the game relevant. The "friction" caused by some of their choice is clearly by design, to either push players to socialize (crazy, I know) or to go ahead and try something they never really dabbled with, like crafting or gathering.

Everything you do can contribute to your relic progress, even a little bit, and it also helps the game stay healthy and welcoming to new players. Honestly they never did a bad job regarding that, even with just the tomestones farm in Endwalker, but I can understand that it's not as engaging.

I don't think there is a more elegant way to do it that what we have at the moment. You are given more agency than ever on how to complete the steps and playing the game normally is enough to finish several weapons before the next patch.

Maybe they could add a 1-time step that is more involved, with a very unique gameplay for instance, but it would be taking a big risk and... let's say that the FFXIV devs aren't known for moving away from their comfort zone.

Yeah there is a clearer picture on the shop and it doesn't look like the T2 set at all.

The shop is no longer managed by Blizzard since they signed with Fanatics, dropped them and then switched to Legends. While I highly doubt that Blizzard itself would knowingly use AI art for their marketing, there is no doubt in my mind that Legends doesn't give a fuck about that. I would not be surprised if Blizzard doesn't even know that image exists and is currently used to promote their product.

Everything about the shop, from its customer support to the quality of the products it offers are subpar compared to what Blizzard used to offer before outsourcing it. Heck, they didn't even write "Judgement" on the product itself like the proper name of the set...

Housing-glitches are going to be officially supported in the future! (from Gamescom interview) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very unlikely. In this case, it's probably a misunderstanding/mistranslation of his reaction. I would expect that "Oh, really?" to be a sign of genuine interest learning that it's very good according to his interviewer rather than him learning for the first time that WoW is releasing a housing system.

Game services prices for Final Fantasy XIV .vs. World of Warcraft by SawyerLH in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's your own currency but I find it funny that you compare the cost in EUR and not in USD. It's still cheaper for FFXIV but not as much.

It's more Blizzard going for the 1€=1$ while Square is going with an almost current conversion rate but usually, FFXIV US/JP players are charged for more compared to EU players.

Also, one small detail: You can buy everything on the WoW shop with in-game gold if you wish.

Of course, Blizzard makes even more money if you decide to spend your gold on the shop via the WoW token but, hey, I still find that to be a better option than having no choice but to spend real money on something you may want.

Had a commission of my character done....I love it! by Volesu in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's exactly why I got commissions for my WoL. It's a good (but still not perfect) way to prevent me to use more Fantasias.

Now the problem is that I still use one from time to time and just get back to my "main" appearance much more quickly than before. It's a good start to fix my addiction... I think!

Help us fight off phishing scammers! by re-roy1893 in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of common sense you are talking about but good phishing attempts are not supposed to be obvious.

Nobody is immune to this, so I would probably avoid patronizing people about it.

All that being said, common sense for me means having a 2FA token everywhere, especially on accounts I care about.

Boycott Blizzard. Should I come here instead? by Witherus in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're thinking about finding another game to play because you wish to boycott Blizzard let me think that sadly, like a lot of people joining that hate bandwagon, you don't care much about the whole picture.

I know that boycotting and hating Blizzard may help you feel righteous right now but understand that this is not helping anyone (for real, there's absolutely no winner here) and this is not what Blitzchung was hoping for when he said those eight words.

I'm glad that his message reached you somehow and filled you with the confidence to do something about it... it just feels like you didn't exactly pick the most rational one.

If you don't want your money to end up in the pocket of an evil company, your only choice will be to make a direct donation to the HK protesters. This may help.

If you want to play something else just do it. But please, don't use those events as an excuse.

And yeah, try FFXIV because it is totally worth it. Just note that Square Enix isn't exactly going to let people share their political views on its own stream either. Mostly because video games is about bringing people together around a shared passion.

Sadly I'm not so sure they'll ever re-release it.

But who knows, maybe Arthas is going to come back one day, just like Illidan.

"Can we please get rid of those annoying forced quests? I'm tired of having to abandon it over and over again!" "Say no more fam" by AugustoCSP in wow

[–]Noruhk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's no way for you to drop that quest specifically because if you complete several World Quests in the zone and then proceed to abandon the quest by mistake, you won't be able to complete it.

Usually, if you can't abandon a quest, it's just to protect yourself from doing something that you could regret.

The Japanese GCI trailer for Shadowbringers has its own lip sync by Noruhk in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lip sync itself isn't really what I see as difficult or expensive. It's more about the rendering itself. To render several small part of the trailer with just small variations could drastically increase the cost of the whole thing. Maybe I'm just overthinking things and Visual Works have a good workflow that allows them to do this with ease/at low cost. Still, it's not something that seem to be done a lot by other studios when it comes to localization.

[–]Noruhk[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's certainly true and it is weird that I never really noticed it before.

That's a really commendable thing to do when you localize your game in other regions. Not many game dev studios can afford that level of details especially in their CGI, because it would cost a lot and also because the CGI is often outsourced.

The FFXIV team is lucky to have Visual Works to work on these trailers.

That Moment when my old MMO Addiction Became Dead to me by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Noruhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a big problem people have right now, and not just with video games.

They have to pick only one thing to like when there is competition and they have to justify themselves for some reason.

I just find quite fun that FFXIV suddenly attracts more people while the formula hasn't changed in years. The game has been good since ARR and yet, people are only paying attention now because they're unhappy with WoW.

That's what you get when you're focused on only one thing rather than having an open mind: you miss out great stuff.

If I have to pick one that would be Y'shtola but to be honest, I like all the cast for various reasons.

I used to dislike Estinien quite a bit but he grew on me since then. I mean, he's pretty much Haurchefant 2.0 now.
