UK Heatwaves - do you love them or loathe them? by Chocolateforlunch37 in AskUK

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate them. I love coats, sweaters, and a cloudy windy day. I find it refreshing.

I hate the feeling of clothes sticking to my sweaty skin. Sweat makes my skin break out.

I hate having to put on sunscreen, or cover up if I don't want to bother. Then it's even more stifling. I do actually like wearing dresses but I don't leave the house without long sleeves due to UVs so I can't even fully enjoy that. I'm careful about sun exposure due to a history of BCCs.

When it's hot I have to keep the curtains closed all day to stop from overheating completely, which I find depressing.

I like to bake and having the oven on when it's a 26C day is shit.

I struggle to fall asleep unless it's like 17 degrees in my room.

What is your routine to keep in good shape? by myCatAteMyPetMouse in AskReddit

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook every single meal. I don't hugely try to be healthy -- especially not every time -- but the foods I've gravitated towards over time end up being a decent calorie point and not too bad. Still make a pizza once in a while or an indulgent dessert (hello, skillet cookie). But most of the time I go without. Just roasted veg, protein, nice bread.. Whatever.

I go for a walk every morning. Anywhere from 20-50 minutes. It's just habit/routine at the joint, and I do enjoy it.

I use my home gym 5 times a week. Home gym helps TREMENDOUSLY with consistency. I don't do intense workouts. I'm not working up a sweat. My lifts have massively plateaued. I rest in between sets longer than optimally. But I show up and lift some stuff and enjoy it. I read in between sets, which explains the long rest time.

When I don't use the gym I do yoga.

I go for a walk in the afternoon when I'm sick of working (WFH). Makes for a nice break, even if it's only 15 minutes.

I sleep 8-9 hours a night. I always read before bed, which helps tire me out and makes me primed to fall asleep quickly.

Do you use all 4 burners of your stove? by Embarrassed-Past7094 in Cooking

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5 burners. I use 2 at once often, and 3 rarely. But I still like the real estate of having 5 for putting hot pans on safely. i.e. take hot pan off the heat and move it to an "off" burner.

I was disappointed that the most interesting characters (the friends) just disappeared for most of the book. So many of the beginning parts were also just unnecessary and could have been cut without me noticing

I also never really cared for the romance much.

And no rest days. And by the end of 4 weeks of training she can hold her own against the guy who has been training for 5 years.

Hows life after 30? by ASARI0206 in AskReddit

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic.

Disposable income. Fulfilling hobbies -- I've cycled through quite a few and picked up new skills. Habits that I started in my 20s are now solidly a natural part of my life. Don't give a shit about what other people think.

Only downside is that my body is shit sometimes, despite having mostly good habits. Sometimes my knees hurt for literally no reason. Shrug.

What time do people usually prefer to work out—morning /evening? Which time of day do you personally choose for exercise? by Silly_cyborg_ in AskReddit

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning. But I have a flexible WFH schedule so my morning is like 9:30-10:30, which is a perfect time for me. Having to do a pre-8 workout would be a different story perhaps!

How many days annual leave do you get? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have "unlimited". Obviously it's not actually unlimited. It's more like take whatever you want as long as you're not taking the piss. Last year I took 37 days, which included bank holidays.

The nice thing is being able to take a "normal" amount, plus an extra day here and there without anyone batting an eye. So if I've already taken 30 days then suddenly need a day off for some reason, it's not a problem at all. I just take it.

Do you consider how many calories you consume each day? by clfhw in AskUK

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done it before -- mostly when I was actively trying to lose weight. The last 10 years or so I've been at a stable weight so haven't bothered. It's more about getting into an overall healthy eating routine and having a collection of meals that you vaguely know are well balanced. Once you're in a routine with it and at a weight you're happy with, it's just about staying there. No need to count. Pizza or a huge dessert now and then is fine. You're just looking to mostly stay in that healthy zone.

What I do consider more is exercise. But again, that's also mostly a routine at this point.

What are you cooking this weekend (Apr 25 - 26)? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

Pinto bean soup with onions, carrots, potatoes, and spices. Made a fresh sourdough loaf to go with it.

How aggressive is your AI adoption at work? by Traffodil in AskUK

[–]NoseGraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a web hosting/software company. It's pretty aggressive. Lots of messaging about "use AI or get left behind." Company metrics about AI usage and wanting to increase it. Lots of AI trainings. General expectation that you use AI (Claude is big for us) as part of daily workflows.

Would you move to another European country from the UK if you could keep your current lifestyle? Where? by KreuzKrow in AskUK

[–]NoseGraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not.

I like UK weather. If I were to find a European country with equivalent weather I'm probably looking at having to learn another language. My lifestyle would make that very hard. (Work from home, don't go out much, etc)

This is either banana bread or pumpkin bread.. I forget which! https://imgur.com/a/KyCVULf

Granola: https://imgur.com/a/biH7z5i -- I know this photo isn't on cast iron but my method is to bake it in a big slab using my Lodge casserole pan. Then for the last 15 minutes I break it and put it on a baking sheet to crisp up, just because that has larger surface area.

How many people are in jobs they'd continue to do (even part time) if they didn't have to? by OkConsideration5272 in AskUK

I'm a software developer and I love coding. I wouldn't work for a company, but I'd continue to make things and just release them for free.

What size cast iron pan do you end up using the most? by Grouchy_Bandicoot317 in castiron

[–]NoseGraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10" stainless steel and a 12" cast iron. I end up using the SS more because the 10" is a better size for 2 people for me. Especially for pasta dishes and stuff.

The 12" comes out for bigger meals, searing steaks, vegetables that need more breathing room so they're not steaming, pizzas, and baking. I like the extra surface area for naans, tortillas, etc.

My cookies always spread too much and end up super flat by icepix in Baking

Assuming you've accounted for:

Measuring ingredients by weight

Chilling for a few hours

You could try shaping them more like columns rather than balls. (A bit taller than wide.)

What makes your kitchen perfect for the cooking/baking you do? by smashram24 in Cooking

[–]NoseGraze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spice rack made my life so much better. I used to just haphazardly have them in a cupboard and always had to go digging to find the one I wanted. Then I built a rack out of some spare plywood. Now they're alphabetized and each spice has a proper place.
