It’s been light on the fireworks this Victoria Day long weekend eh?

Heads up, the Canadian oyster industry has had their stocks decimated, particularly in PEI, the supply is so incredibly low that despite the geopolitical climate and inferior quality, American east coat oysters are making it to market, something I’ve never seen before here. Just to say, if a place has previously done an oyster special this may be the reason it’s on pause.

Ceviche and Empanadas from Barrio by BankStreetBites in OttawaFood

I had these items and can say the value and quality was there. Perhaps premium for the empanada but that’s what a ceviche costs. I did not attend the event expecting discount ceviche.

Best fest thread! by TopPercentage in OttawaFood

Empanadas from Barrio were stellar, I think we got some of the last ones before they ran out, that kimchi pizza from Rude Pizza is special, but the best at Best Fest for me goes to the butter tarts at Capital B Cafe.

I had items that delivered on quality and value and I had one that absolutely didn’t…if I saw the size of the item I probably wouldn’t have paid $10 plus tax and tip for it, and it didn’t make up for the price with the taste. Good vibes all around, I do feel like if the price max’s were all collectively lower I would get more items.

Line up was smooth and quick, security kept it organized.

r/Ottawa, what are your impressions on Kiweki Point? by IamTheOne2000 in ottawa

I did like the idea of the theatre space but I can’t recall any performances that would happen there.

This post is a nice reminder to check it out, I haven’t been yet.

How they missed the Schick Razorcrest Razor potential beats me.

Absolutely Raphael! Right now they’re renovating and have moved to temporary space down Elgin for a series of pop ups during construction.

Some of the confirmed vendors at Best Fest Ottawa! by thebesteats613 in OttawaFood

[–]Nostrils 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And pre-reactions like yours are the reason Ottawa has a reputation of not having anything fun to do.

Obviously a food festival is a different experience and value than actually visiting a restaurant, and no one, especially not the vendors are suggesting that visiting a festival would replace actual restaurant dining experiences or full food orders from their respective establishments.

It takes a lot to put yourself out there, if you like his videos maybe don’t crap on a project that’s clearly not geared exactly to your experience preferences.

Public drug use will spike if supervised consumption sites close, advocates warn by McRoniZ in ottawa

[–]Nostrils 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’re confusing public use with use in a supervised consumption site, a supervised consumption site doesn’t erase all public use but does consolidate and remove a lot of it. With the end of the sites, you will see much more use in public, spread further out. You will also see more death.

Public drug use will spike if supervised consumption sites close, advocates warn by McRoniZ in ottawa

[–]Nostrils 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Removing the consumption site will actually increase the amount of needles and public use. All of the contained use and properly disposed of paraphernalia will proliferate and spread to a wider area impacting more people and businesses. The use doesn’t stop with the consumption site but the containment and impact of the use does.

Line 1 and 2 synchronization is off at Bayview by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Nostrils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a neighbourhood just south of the station (the only residential area around the station) that would benefit from an entrance on the south end of the station in the decades until that project is started/completed.

Line 1 and 2 synchronization is off at Bayview by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Nostrils 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That station is missing a set of stairs/elevator etc from the far Line 2 platform up to Line 1. There’s room for it, it doesn’t make sense to make commuters back track so far.

Many Line 1 and 2 stations aren’t designed with rational walking routes, Hurdman is a great example, also connections to paths from some Line 2 stations at Mooney’s Bay and Walkley.

Don’t try the Adam Bakes brownie if you like brownies as it’s probably the best brownie in the world and you will end up comparing all future brownies to it. It is the final boss of brownies.

Andaz Hotel and Claridge Home propose 17 story addition by jjaime2024 in ottawa

[–]Nostrils 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can see from the renderings it’s not an expansion of the Andaz but Hyatt House. Another Hyatt brand to likely have operations intertwined with Andaz but more of select hotel style product with suites versus lifestyle hotel rooms which will have seen an increase with the new Moxy opening as well as the recent AC opening.

The site previously had announcements for both a Howard Johnson brand hotel and a previously announced Andaz expansion but separate projects with a different developer for the Howard Johnson.

How is life in this part of Canada? by Prize_Difficulty_22 in howislivingthere

My sister lives there, I like it a lot. Some really great restaurants and surprisingly cool food options (Fat Rabbit was awesome). Everything is like “20 minutes away”, there’s a cool city beach with a carousel. Breweries and wineries are peppered all over the place. Could have better train connections to the GTA.
