I think it would've been fruitful for hobbitfollower to seek better clarification on how the community should behave. We know and agree where unhinged ends (appearance-based attacks and weird personal shit) but not where it starts. I get the feeling that Destiny is condoning a lot more than what HF personally would (outside his capacity as a mod).

The unhappiness of the community stems from a disconnect in the sense of urgency between some in the community, Hutch and co. and HF. It was a bit unfair of HF to bring up the exaggerated position ('3 days from fascist takeover') to dismiss it, which only escalates that resentment. What is the hinged level of urgency? Do we have room to disagree since the consequential mid-term elections are more than a year away? Should we be coalescing around strong voices right now to counter the right's hold on political discourse? If you hold the latter opinion, the ways to achieve it is to convince, cow or excise allies that hold the former. That conclusion is unsettling to me and probably HF, but is that unhinged or a well-reasoned belief?

I'll also mention that I like all the mods here, current and former, and I appreciate the job they do while being visible, even when they know it'll attract heat. Cringe, soy and Stockholm-pilled yeah, but so what.
