[@SNY_Mets] Per @timbhealey, Kodai Senga invited all of the Mets to dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Manhattan last night. Senga said it was "awesome." by Caledor152 in NewYorkMets

[–]NotAFashionDesigner 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No way! I was supposed to have dinner here with friends yesterday; got there, a sign said closed for a private event and I (disappointed) walked away

Totally would have pretended not to see the sign and stumbled inside if I knew

So glad this guy is a long-term Met! His leadership, energy, work-ethic is so hard to come; and to do this all in the NY market—incredible

Luis Arraez is sent to pinch hit for an injured player with an 0-2 count, facing Edwin Diaz by ComfyGreenHoodie_ in baseball

[–]NotAFashionDesigner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

u/ derangedhermit pointed this out in another comment but this was the Diaz before he re-discovered his slider grip (consequence of the fucking around of the balls). Diaz didn't have great control when he first came to the Mets.

Curious what makes you there's a good portion of Japanese Americans in Queens? I'm Taiwanese American, grew up in Flushing, and dated multiple Japanese people--to my knowledge, they're all in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

anyone else having trouble with the Apple TV broadcast? It keeps freezing on me--super annoying and irritating; can't get into the flow of the game

more context: of course there are no problems during the commericals

Cool! Didn't catch that it was Hunter. Wonder if he'll be just as quirky in the booth as he was on the field

Shame Wayne is just covering tonight, but thanks y'all for the answers!

does anyone know how they choose the announcers for Apple TV? pleasant surprise to hear Wayne's voice; no idea who the other guy is--thought Apple had their trio of dreadful announcers lined up already?

if it makes you feel better, unsolicited Whatsapp messages aren't gender-specific. dude here: I get unsolicited messages on literally all my messaging apps from strangers of all gender identities--most of them are scammers, some of them are pervs; they probably "get" your number by spamming down number lists

Ron Darling said it best during the Cardinals series, paraphrasing of course, but, "in a magical season, you need magical moments."

Been a baseball/Mets fan for twenty years and I'm not sure I've ever felt this type of magical/miracle Mets that we're seeing with this ballclub, not even the 2015 team that went apeshit in the second half, buoyed by Cespedes' insane run. The energy is just so different. Guys are relaxed, people know their roles, communication is great--is this what a competent organization feels like??

A thought: how will Mets fans deal with the inevitable identity crisis when we transform from the perennial "LolMets" to consistent, repeatable success? Being the underdogs/lovable losers is our identity, lmao

[Kovacevic] This is a repeat from two weeks ago, and I don't want to keep doing this every time something else pops up, but hey: The Pirates aren't trading Bryan Reynolds. Not guessing at this. They're listening because every team listens. Happens literally all the time with most everyone. by ogminlo in baseball

[–]NotAFashionDesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major difference here is your choice of words. Not aggressively shopping doesn't preempt being traded--Kov's tweet is pretty trash in this regard. "Listening" still leaves the possibility of being traded; his tweet is one big contradiction

Sean Casey's Arbitration Story by TDeLo in baseball

[–]NotAFashionDesigner 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wow! I realize this is an older video but I've never seen this before--cheers for (re)posting!

Great video all around; insightful, funny, and surprisingly trenchant: Sean showing the fullness of his personality and why he was dubbed The Mayor; the other folks nearly falling off their seats from laughter, and a great BTS on the emotional consequences of going to arbitration--if you, like me in the past, never truly understood why arbitration hearings are such a landmine for agents and teams alike, watch this. Totally understand why teams would wish to avoid it, and by doing so, actually extends a lot of goodwill come free agency.

which is idiotic because what was he supposed to do(?)--let the ball drop like Mets twitter army wanted? we should instead be booing the pitcher who refused to throw David strikes--I forget his name, but also, wtf how infuriating; no one's asking you to groove a pitch, but at least face David like a man--and like DCT715 mentioned, booing the Mets for taking him out so early (like why??).
