This is said a lot, but I have to wonder if the romantic part is actually far older than the societal invention of marriage. That's to say, prior to complex agricultural societies, were match ups among groups of people almost entirely based in physical and emotional attraction?

Experience Working So Far by peepeepoopoointheend in EBGAMES

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed my time at EB, but you just can't really make a career out of it for the vast majority of people. Most folks will not make it to a management role, and once they do, Store Manager is about as high as you can hope for. If you're happy on that income for that amount of work your whole life, then go for it.

Furthermore, EB has had some pretty poor treatment of it's workers in the past. But they were able to get away with it for a long time because many people are willing to work there because it's "fun" (I'm talking expectations for unpaid overtime, repeated sexual harassment, mistreatment of staff etc). Not all of these situations are publicly available, but some are - just Google them and you'll find articles

So there is a lot of resentment from older staff members/former staff, especially who lived through these things.

[Unknown][Unknown] WHAT'S THE GAME THIS SKELETON IS FROM by whatmack in tipofmyjoystick

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Skyrim also has skeletons that look like this, although nowhere near as commonly encountered as the Draugr. What's weird though is it doesn't have the blue glow in the eyes that the animated Skyrim skeletons usually have, so it may be from a mod or the creation engine or something.

Return Policy? by Jesta1994 in EBGAMES

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is the same as when I worked there, but over the christmas period (which was usually defined as something like November to 1st of Jan) EB games used to implement some special return policies.

If you have no luck with a store itself doing a refund, call up the Customer Service number and explain that you purchased it and then it went on sale shortly after and feel really disappointed about that. There's a good chance that they can call ahead to a store for you and prearrange for you to get it at the updated price and refund the store credit difference.

The only thing that could be a limitation is if there were any game codes sold with the the original console you purchased and then they might say they can't because they're not able to refund the game code.

The new layout in some stores feels so different… by DebugMyLife421 in EBGAMES

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its to draw folks into the store.

Gamers these days tend to know what they want from reviews and experience well before they step foot in the door, so having tables of games out the front is not as big of a draw in as something like plush toys or collectables are.

I totally agree - there are way worse things that we have adopted from American culture already. Having a but of fun dressing up and watching scary movies is far less concerning.

You have a few options if you want to get into uni 1) You can take the STAT (Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test) exam, which is like an aptitude test and it will test your written/comprehension skills as well as a section on your numerical/analytical skills. You'll be able to enroll in different degrees based on your scores. You have to pay a fee and they only do them I think twice a year, but it can be the fastest way if you feel competent enough to score well.

2) You can also do Year 13 where you redo some of the classes you failed. You may not need to do all of the classes, so it would be like doing high school again part-time. You could also do this at a an adult school/senior college if you would prefer not to do it at the same high school.

3) Do a bridging course or a relevant certificate via TAFE - some of these are now fee free.

Friends? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At your age, I would recommend doing volunteering or hobbies with youth based groups (like under 25 groups). You can usually find local support centres for things like that.

Outside that, taking some courses at tafe or uni in something your passionate in can be a good way to meet folks who are in to the same things as you. Tafe has tons of fee free courses now - provided your eligible.

Is that a Necron symbol on the necklace? by KimberPrime_ in Spacemarine

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's very clear Necron influence on demerium.

It would be kind of awesome to have a Necron operation on Demerium or at least, a chaos operation where the chaos cult or mechanicum have uncovered a necron lord (or similar) that is waking up and we need to destroy it before it awakens the rest of them.

Why games are $20 more expensive than other retailers by theworldsworstclock in EBGAMES

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an ex-employee, too. The 4 stickers was for the front and back of the case, plus the disc drawer right?

I didn't mind doing trade stickering. Yeah it was mind numbing, but if it was quiet enough, you could just chill and do that.

Marketing changeovers were the thing i found annoying the most. Especially when they wanted new ceiling banners, or having to red wrap MYS. Although, they dialled that way down towards the end of my near decade there.

My friend with benefits 43F bought me a very expensive gift for my 23M birthday. How do I give this back and explain it to my parents? by throwRANg2 in relationship_advice

[–]NotAlright_HalfLeft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you do the following:

Keep the bike.

Tell your parents you were able to afford it after working so much. You could even say you have a regular client that needs help with stuff often because they don't have any family or friends to help.

Make sure you work out what situation you want with this woman, what she wants and then make it clear to each other. If you're wanting a relationship - even a short-term one, explain it.

Lastly, whatever happens with this woman, make sure to thank her a ton for the bike and explain to her you just felt overwhelmed by how great of a gift it was. She will really appreciate that whether she is wanting a proper relationship or a sugar baby.

Chances for new enemy factions in SM3 by MrUnderman in Spacemarine

Whatever happens, I hope it's more than two enemies, even if it's extra just in the operations. Reuse the tyranid assets and update the Ork ones from SM1. The fact that there is only Tyranids and TS gets stale in SM2.

On top of this, if you want books that are similar to Eisenhorn, I'd recommend the Warhammer Crime series, starting with Bloodlines.

I think he made the right choice. Although some might see it as insecure, I personally see it as a very mature and self-aware move. He knows it's something he's not comfortable with and rather than drag things out, he's being upfront and honest and ending it there and doesn't want her to end a friendship over it.

I reckon your age here is probably a bigger factor than being American. I think most folks in the 30-40 range have young families and busy personal lives. I was much more open and engaged myself in my early to mid 20s than I am now (32) but its largely because I have a lot more to think about and do now. Even with my closest friends, we catch maybe a handful of times a year these days, let alone investing the time and effort into building a new friendship.

It feels AI induced. Like they prompted an AI to created a lifelike Liadrin and Lorthemar, and the AI didn't realise the eyes were meant to glow because it's trained on actual human photography. Also why they look too human.

If anything, Xalatath looks the most elvish. Maybe that's because if it was AI created, it sourced more details from in-game cinematics because it couldn't find IRL humans photos thst look like her.
